he Technology Accep ance Model (TAM) wi h he Technology, O ganiza ion, and

changing how ou is s engage wi h des ina ions, VR ou ism has p o ided businesses wi h
new oppo uni ies o ma ke , deli e engaging expe iences, and mee ou is s' g owing
a el demands. (Gu en ag, 2010). Mo eo e , VR ou ism makes a el planning mo e
pa icipa o y and in o med by allowing use s o p e iew loca ions, expe iences, and
a ac ions be o e deciding.
Howe e , as compa ed o coun ies wi h ma u e ou ism economies, VR ou ism adop ion
has been slow and emains e y limi ed in he eme ging ma ke . Al hough he adop ion o
echnology is g owing quickly in some me opoli an a eas, he ou ism indus y as a whole
con on s echnological, inancial, and in as uc u e obs acles ha p e en VR ou ism
om becoming widely used (Id is e al., 2021; Jude & Ukekwe, 2020). Tou ism businesses
in hese a eas a e s ill s uggling o ealize he ull po en ial o VR ou ism, and ins ead o
emb acing all o i s ad an ages, much o he a en ion is s ill on emo ing hese obs acles.
T a el agencies, unlike o he ypes o ou ism i ms, a ely use VR ou ism in ma ke ing
ac i i ies, p oduc de elopmen , o sma ou ism se ices. The e o e, i is necessa y o ind
ou he easons behind he limi ed use o VR ou ism by hese businesses.
This p oblem also a ec s schola ly s udy. The e is almos limi ed s udy on how ou ism
en e p ises in de eloping economies use VR ou ism, in con as o he abundance o
s udies on he in luence o VR on ou is s' beha io s and expe iences (Yung & Khoo-
La imo e, 2019). The e is a gla ing knowledge acuum on he ac o s ha encou age o
hinde companies om implemen ing his kind o ou ism, and he exis ing esea ch
me hods a e no ailo ed o hese ma ke s' pa icula equi emen s. This esea ch gap should
be con ibu ed h ough s udying he uses o VR ou ism om he ou ism businesses side.
Ho Chi Minh ci y, Vie nam, a ypical case s udy in his con ex . Despi e he ci y’s ich
his o ical and cul u al o e ings, as well as Vie nam’s o e all g ow h in ou ism,
echnological ad ancemen s in his sec o ha e no ye eached hei ull po en ial (Tuyen
& Van Hanh, 2024). The e o e, unde s anding he ac o s ha in luence he adop ion o
VR ou ism by ou ism businesses in such se ings is c ucial o capi alizing on VR
ou ism’s po en ial o d i e g ow h, inno a ion, and compe i i eness.
This s udy seeks o close ha gap by c ea ing a new esea ch model ha ocuses on he
elemen s d i ing VR ou ism adop ion by a el agencies in de eloping na ions, especially
in Ho Chi Minh Ci y. A sui able se ing o esea ching VR in eg a ion in ou ism is Ho
Chi Minh Ci y, Vie nam, a signi ican economic and cul u al cen e . Unlike much o he
exis ing esea ch, which ends o cen e on ou is s’ expe iences and beha io al esponses
o VR ou ism (Gu en ag, 2010; Yung & Khoo-La imo e, 2019), his s udy o e s a esh

2. Li e a u e Re iew
2.1. Vi ual Reali y Tou ism and Tou ism En e p ise Adop ion
Some schola s de ine i ual eali y (VR) ou ism as he use o VR echnology in o
ac i i ies connec ed o ou ism (Yung e al., 2021; Zhang & Hwang, 2024). They unde line
ha VR ou ism is he expe ience o a el in a i ual en i onmen made easible by
echnology ad ances. Fo ins ance, Beck, Rainoldi, and Egge (2019) claim ha VR
ou ism comp ises 360-deg ee expe iences and o he ools allowing gues s o use hei
hea ing, ision, and o he senses (Beck e al., 2019). S anley (2017) simila ly cha ac e izes
VR ou ism as a ype o a el ha gi es po en ial isi o s he chance o in es iga e si es,
ac i i ies, and e en s wi hin hei na i e coun y, he e o e suppo ing hei decision-
making p ocess o nex ips (Kim e al., 2020).
In addi ion, some s udies indica e ha VR ou ism ough o be ega ded as a echnological
end du ing he pandemic, possessing ma ke ing alue a he han being conside ed a
dis inc ou ism p oduc . Howe e , his pe spec i e is uncommon and in equen ly
e e enced in ou ism li e a u e. Cu en ly, he concep o VR ou ism is mainly app oached
as ollows: VR ou ism is a a el expe ience based on elec onic de ices as a eplacemen
o physical a el (P ideaux, 2005). VR ou ism se es as a o m o subs i u e ou ism,
enabling a el wi hou physical mo emen , o as a means o enhance ou ism expe iences
(Beck e al., 2019; Ve ma e al., 2022; Wiangkham e al., 2025). VR ou ism can be
cha ac e ized as ollows based on he p e iously discussed pe spec i es: VR ou ism e e s
o a o m o a el ha u ilizes echnology, pa icula ly ad anced i ual eali y sys ems. I
imp o es he a el expe ience and suppo s sus ainable ou ism de elopmen by allowing
indi iduals o engage wi h a ious loca ions i ually o by p o iding supplemen a y
expe iences a hose si es.

echnology (Kwok & Koh, 2021; Pa k & Jones, 2021). To acili a e in e ac ion o dis an
ou is s, a ious ou ism en e p ises and indi iduals ha e in es ed in c ea ing imme si e
i ual eali y expe iences, pa icula ly o he i age ou ism and his o ical si e ou s (Chin
& Wong, 2024).
The adop ion o VR in ou ism a ies ac oss di e en en e p ises. Cul u al pa ks,
amusemen pa ks, museums, and his o ical he i age si es ha e ac i ely in eg a ed VR o
enhance isi o expe iences (Hassapopoulou, 2018; Hsiao e al., 2021; Ji e al., 2023). In
con as , a el agencies, ho els, and es au an s ha e been slowe o adop his echnology,
mainly due o unce ain ies abou i s business alue. Fo a ac ions, VR o e s imme si e
s o y elling, i ual si e isi s, and in e ac i e expe iences, making i a aluable ool o
engagemen (Lee e al., 2020; Yung & Khoo-La imo e, 2019). Howe e , se ice-based
businesses like a el agencies may s uggle o jus i y VR’s impac on bookings, while
ho els and es au an s may see limi ed bene i s beyond i ual acili y ou s (McLean &
Ba ho s , 2021; Zeng e al., 2020).
Exis ing esea ch has la gely ocused on VR’s echnological and expe ien ial aspec s a he
han i s business implica ions (Yung & Khoo-La imo e, 2019; Zhang & Hwang, 2024).
Resea ch using he echnology accep ance model shows how simple i ual eali y
echnology and equipmen a e. Resea ch seeks o elucida e he i ual eali y expe ience
h ough use s' pe cei ed ad an ages and pe cei ed ease o use (Xian, 2020; Zhang &
Hwang, 2023).

capaci y o VR applica ion. This challenge is e en mo e p onounced in eme ging ou ism
ma ke s, whe e echnological adop ion aces addi ional ba ie s. This esea ch gap needs
o be explo ed o unde s and he easibili y, e ec i eness, and po en ial impac o VR on
di e en ypes o ou ism en e p ises. Fu he in es iga ion can p o ide insigh s in o he
s a egic in eg a ion o VR, helping businesses maximize i s bene i s and o e come
adop ion challenges.

(B yan & Zu a, 2021). The Technology Accep ance Model (TAM), in oduced by F ed
Da is in his PhD hesis in 1986, has been ex ensi ely u ilized and u he e ined by se e al
schola s o examine, p edic , and e alua e he adop ion o de eloping echnologies.
The Technology Accep ance Model (TAM), as p oposed by Da is (1989), conside s
pe cei ed use ulness, pe cei ed ease o use, and in en ion o use as he h ee p ima y ac o s
in luencing use mo i a ion (Da is, 1989). TAM 2 (Venka esh & Da is, 2000), TAM 3
(Venka esh & Bala, 2008), and he Uni ied Theo y o Accep ance and Use o Technology
(UTAUT) ep esen no able adap a ions o he o iginal TAM model ha ha e eme ged o e
ime (Zhang & Hwang, 2023).
The TAM has been u ilized o analyze ou is beha io ega ding he adop ion o
echnology wi hin VR ou ism. The scope o TAM is s ill limi ed, e en wi h i s expansion
h ough he inco po a ion o addi ional models. The p ima y ocus o hese hyb id models
is he expe iences o isi o s in he i ual wo ld.
A signi ican gap exis s in he de elopmen o concep ual amewo ks speci ically designed
o ou ism- ela ed en e p ises.
In he business domain, he e is an absence o comp ehensi e heo e ical amewo ks ha
su icien ly add ess he e ec i e use o echnology (Awa e al., 2015). The Technology–
O ganiza ion–En i onmen (TOE) amewo k has been employed o elucida e he
comp ehensi e dimensions o echnology u iliza ion in co po a e en i onmen s (B yan &
Zu a, 2021). Since i s concep ion, esea che s ha e enhanced he TOE model by
inco po a ing addi ional ac o s in o i s h ee componen s (B yan and Zu a, 2021). This
s a egy is essen ial o ou ism businesses o s eng hen p epa edness o echnology
in eg a ion ac oss all dimensions, as i e alua es echnology applica ions and pinpoin s
a eas o imp o emen (B yan & Zu a, 2021; Liu, 2019).
Building upon he insigh s om he a o emen ioned e iew o concep ual amewo ks in
VR ou ism esea ch, his esea ch aims o make a con ibu ion by expanding he academic
amewo k, de i ed om he in eg a ed pe spec i e o TOE along wi h TAM in he ou ism
ield. This app oach ex ends beyond he con ines o exis ing esea ch models, o e ing a
mo e comp ehensi e unde s anding o echnology adop ion and digi al ans o ma ion in
ou ism i ms, especially o VR ou ism in en ion adop ion.

(Yang e al., 2022). Consequen ly, i ollows ha he in en ion o adop VR ou ism is
indeed in luenced by hese wo c i ical ac o s: pe cei ed ease o use and pe cei ed

compe ency and eadiness. Manage s and s a ind VR ou ism mo e use ul and accessible

echnology can be in eg a ed and aligned wi h an o ganiza ion's cu en p ocedu es and
in as uc u e is known as o ganiza ion compa ibili y (Huang e al., 2016). Manage s may

alue and con enience o use o VR ou ism migh ise, which could a ec he a i ude o

in luence on adop ion in en ion han pe cei ed ease o use (β = 0.490 s. β = 0.421). This

signi icance le el, implying ha ease o use alone may no necessa ily enhance pe cep ions
o he echnology’s bene i s.

making VR ou ism mo e appealing o businesses, ex e nal ac o s such as ma ke ends

5.1 Discussion

esea ch by Zhang, Y., & Hwang, J. in 2023 indica es ha use s' posi i e ecep ion o
echnology (Zhang & Hwang, 2024) poin s VR ou ism owa d expansion.

al., 2020; Manghisi e al., 2017).

(2020), which examined he o ganiza ional adop ion o social media in he hospi ali y
indus y, i was ound ha among he h ee g oups o ac o s conside ed, echnological
ea u es we e deemed o be he mos in luen ial in e ms o hei p edic i e capaci y (Pa eli
e al., 2020). Fu he mo e, in a 2021 Cha e jee e al. s udy, TE, OZ, and EN we e ound o

Rega ding Ho Chi Minh Ci y speci ically, OZ was seen o a ec PE bu no PU. This
ou come could be explained by se e al elemen s. Like he wo k o Cha e jee e al. (2021),
one con ibu ing elemen could e y ce ainly be he sample size—260 esponden s. Bu as
was al eady men ioned, he g ea deg ee o knowledge among ou ism businesses in a as -
expanding u ban cen e wi h echnological applica ions could be a majo elemen
p oducing his ou come. These businesses migh e alua e he alue o VR ou ism mos ly
depending on echnological de elopmen s and he help gi en by he a el sec o , he e o e
educing he impac o OZ on PU.

VR ou ism is a newly de eloping and somewha popula ype o a el (Ve ma e al.,
2022). Al hough many esea che s ha e examined i s use om se e al angles, he e is s ill
a dea h o s udies looking a he in en ion o use VR ou ism om he s andpoin o ou ism
businesses (Yung & Khoo-La imo e, 2019).

esea ch model employs only combina ion o TAM and TOE. Howe e , addi ional heo ies
om he business domain, such as he Di usion o inno a ion heo y and T ansac ion cos

apply VR ou ism in a g owing a el ma ke . Emphasizing pe cei ed use ulness and
simplici y o use, he s udy examined how en i onmen al, o ganiza ional, and
echnological componen s help o de ine hese imp essions. The Technology Accep ance
Model (TAM) was ex ended in he s udy using he Technology, O ganiza ion, and
En i onmen (TOE) amewo k, he e o e o e ing a whole amewo k wi h deep
heo e ical analysis.
The esul s e eal ha VR ou ism is mo e likely adop ed by ou ism o ganiza ions when
hey see clea ope a ional ad an ages since adop ion in en ions a e mo e d i en by
pe cei ed use ulness han by pe cei ed ease o use. Technical de elopmen was shown o
