INTRODUCTION
F ac u e o he w is is one o he mos complica ed pa hologies, because i is associa ed wi h
a wide ange o mo emen s; in a heal hy pulse one can conside h ee main g oups o
mo emen s; lexion and ex ension, adduc ion and abduc ion, p ona ion and supina ion. This
ype o inju y has a la ge incidence in adul hood, and occu s mos ly in women, since
os eopo osis inc eases he b i leness o bones, and, as such, in case o impac he e is a g ea
suscep ibili y o bone b eakage. In ela ion o he younge indi iduals, his ype o ac u e is
mainly due o spo s inju ies (Lana, 2013).
THE REHABILITATION DEVICE
This p ojec began wi h he adap a ion o an al eady exis ing p oduc called Powe ball, which
was designed o pe o m i ness exe cises on he w is , o ea m and shoulde . Th ough he
modi ica ion o his p oduc , he Bioball was c ea ed (see Figu e 1). This de ice uses an A28L
b ushless ou unne mo o , powe ed by a 12 V-2 A powe sou ce h ough a MAG8 elec onic
speed con olle , wi h an eccen ic mass coupled o i s sha o c ea ing ib a ion, which is
use ul o p op iocep ion and elaxa ion pu poses. I also uses a Supe io Elec ic M062-LE04
s eppe mo o , NEMA 23 (O ien al mo o , 2017), powe ed by he same powe sou ce and
con olled h ough a TB6600 d i e ; his mo o is coupled o an eccen ic ba ha ing a i s end
he Bioball. Combining he posi ion adjus men o he suppo , his de ice enables he
ep oduc ion o he mo emen s associa ed wi h he w is . The con ol o bo h mo o s and
espec i e d i e s is ca ied ou wi h A duino, h ough an especially designed so wa e

c ea ed in LabVIEW (by Na ional Ins umen s™). The alida ion o his de ice was
accomplished by physio he apis s a he Hospi al o B aga, based on hei own expe ience in
he ehabili a ion o pa ien s wi h w is pa hologies (Fe ei a, 2017).

RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS
This de ice enables wo ypes o ehabili a ion: ac i e and passi e. Fo ac i e ehabili a ion
he pa ien c ea es esis ance o he mo emen gene a ed by he de ice, exe cising he e o e
he muscles on he w is , o ea m and hand. In passi e ehabili a ion he de ice helps he
pa ien o pe o m each exe cise (see again Figu e1). This p ocedu e helps o inc ease he
ampli ude o each mo emen o he w is ; he da a co esponding o each one o he exe cises
can be compu ed by he de eloped so wa e (see Figu e 2).
