In 1985, she unsuccess ully applied o admission o he s udy o a chaeology a he Facul y
o A s o Cha les Uni e si y in P ague. Al hough he knowledge and abili y we e excellen
wi hou any doub , she was no admi ed o he s udy due o he cons ain s se up by he hen
egime, such as “nume us clausus” abo e all. One yea la e , in 1986, she ied he luck again
and, a ha ime, was admi ed o he Facul y and s a ed o s udy Classical A chaeology and
Gene al His o y. Th ee yea s la e , in 1989, when he s udy o Egyp ology was opened again

chose aspecializa ion in po e y, which emained he main ield o in e es h oughou he

knowledge ob ained by he s udy o Classical A chaeology and soon became in e na ionally
enowned o he publica ions dealing wi h Egyp ian po e y da ing o he Fi s millennium
B. C. E. (Smolá iko á 1997; Smolá iko á 2016b) and G aeco ‑Egyp ian ela ions including
G eek impo s o Egyp p eda ing Alexande he G ea (Smolá iko á 1994; Smolá iko á 2001;
Smolá iko á 2002; Smolá iko á 2004; Smolá iko á 2007; Smolá iko á 2010b; Smolá iko á
2010c; Smolá iko á 2014c). A he same ime, he i s a chaeological season in Egyp , spen

by Sławomi Rzepka and he o me class ‑ma e Joze Hudec (Smolá iko á 2019a). Toge he
