Tamulionienė | Project metA-nord in Lithuania Project META-NORD in Lithuania AURELIJA TAMULIoNIENĖ Institute of Lithuanian Language The Institute of Lithuanian Language is a state scientific institute that carries out scientific and applied research. One of the activities of the Lithuanian Language Institute is the dissemination of Lithuanian studies in the world. The Institute is an active member of various international linguistic organizations, as well as the national coordinator in Lithuania of the European movement META-NET, which aims to foster a multilingual European information society. META-NET aims to develop the technological foundations for a multilingual European information society, to build a community with a shared vision and strategic research objectives, to create an open access resource infrastructure, a single digital market for Europe, and to strengthen the links between language-related technologies. Currently, 31 European countries are participating in the infrastructure. The Nordic-Baltic project META-NORD has been running since February 2011. The aim of the project is to expand the multilingual information space, mobilize the community developing language technologies and resources, and form an open infrastructure of language resources, technologies and tools in the Nordic and Baltic countries, which can be adapted for scientific and business purposes. It is part of a larger European infrastructure called META-NET, which includes Danish, Estonian, Finnish, Icelandic, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian and Swedish languages with fewer than 10 million speakers each.
