Biržų publication, it can be observed that instead of the word iszlisty, which is in that publication, the manuscript has the word iszleity, although it is not written very clearly and, apparently, therefore the authors have read it incorrectly (although this may be a proofreading error that ir occurred during printing). Word iszleity confirmed ir by another ,,A copy of the manuscript of the Works, in which it is clearly written: Buwa wyrszou to altar tep mirakullinga pariedita iszleity, iog litus, dergnas, ne wieie ne negalieiy ne tynai ugnys oZgesity, nes dar wietroutas laikas lyipsna kou auksztesne muszies®. The word jsleité (not islisté!) is used by S. Daukanto in the sentence,,Works“ mentioned at the beginning of the article. This word here describes the place where the altar fire of the pagan Lithuanian temple is burned. This is confirmed by the source mentioned by S. Daukanto —T. The description of Narbuto Vilnius temple, from which S. Daukantas has translated the aforementioned sentence almost literally, e.g., Bylo w nim tak misternie sporządzona w klęslošė we szrodku, Ze żaden ulew dždža, ani śnieg, ani wiatr nie mogly ognia przygasič |...)*. The word wysłitę, as we see, corresponds to Polish wkleslosé ",trough- ". Later, describing the same temple in other works, S. Daukantas uses the word įlinkmė instead of įšleitė, e.g., Widurie wirszaus to aukuro buwusi ilinkmie, tejp nagoutaj patajsyta, iog ne lytus nė sniegas negalieies tinaj ugnęs gėsėti, negi wies jos blaszkyti, but atkalej tokio dingstie lijpsna kou didesnej dar auksztin twaskejusi*. Wyrszui to altoriaus bū tep kieysta ilinkmie nutaisita, iog ne litus ne darganas, ne wietras negalieję tynai ugnes gesite ne blaszkites: 985, Taigi išlįstė, pasirodo, yra žodis nebuvėlis. In the edition of S. Daukanto,,The Works” prepared by V. and M. Biržiškiai, it is either a proofreading error or the result of inaccurate reading of the manuscript. From this,,Darby® edition, the word, not confirmed with the original (manuscript) source, has also entered the Lithuanian language dictionary. The word is known only from S. Daukanto and old writings, from the living language — dialects, at least so far it has not been recorded. B. VANAGIENĖ * S. Daukanto on the i, the usual circumflex sign is used for technical reasons. 10 Budą Senowęs —Lėtuwiū Kalnienū and Žamajtiū iszrasze According to Senowęs Rasztū Jokub’s Laukys, Petropilie 1845, p. 2 (hereinafter —Būdas). 11 Ibid., p. 4. 12 Preach ape gardens or daigins wajsingū mediū iszgoldę isz teutonū katbos i ziėmajtiū: Anton's Land, Petropolis 1849, p. 28. 18 Teodor Narbutt, News about the Ancient Church of Jupiter in Vilnius,,,- Tygodnik Wilenski", no. 60, t.
