School health in Europe for active and healthy ageing (SHE4AHA): policy and implementation recommendations

Abstract

The European Commission Green Paper on Ageing and the Health Promoting Schools (HPS) paradigm can be connected through several key objectives, as both aim to promote health and wellbeing across the lifespan, with a particular focus on fostering positive habits from a young age that can support active healthy ageing. This book is an output of the ERASMUS+ School for Health in Europe for Active and Healthy Ageing (SHE4AHA) (ID KA220-SCH-2021-003), and presents evidence-based recommendations for the creation of national and European policies that promote the implementation of school health in Europe for active and healthy aging focused on the following four main objectives: i) to create conditions for health and wellbeing promotion life-course approach; ii) to support intergenerational solidarity in health promoting schools; iii) to support the implementation and monitoring of a flexible and adaptable health promotion teacher training curriculum to different local and regional contexts; iv) to advocate for the economic and social implications of early health education for active and healthy ageing.
