Un lustro no es sólo una palabra de seis letras

Revista de Traducción e Interpretación Núm. 5 - Año 2003 UN LUSTRO NO ES SÓLO UNA PALABRA DE SEIS LETRAS Juan Miguel ZARANDONA Universidad de Valladolid Como quien no quiere la cosa, ya han transcurrido cinco años desde la publicación de los primeros números de nuestras publicaciones de la Facultad de Traducción e Interpretación de Soria, Universidad de Valladolid, por nombre, Hermēneus, Vertere y Disbabelia en aquel cercano-lejano año de 1999, todavía en el pasado siglo. Un lustro es sólo una palabra de seis letras, poca cosa si lo comparamos con el tiempo de las montañas de la tierra, con el de las estrellas del cielo o con el de los dioses intemporales; sin embargo, ¡cuánto significa cuando lo restringimos al tiempo lento y sufrido, a la lucha diaria, a la camaradería cómplice de sacar adelante un proyecto de tres colecciones como es el caso del que se ocupa esta introducción!: como es sabido, se ha tratado de una primera de artículos de traducción, interpretación y disciplinas afines; otra segunda de sesudos manuales donde cabe y ha lugar la reflexión más pausada; y la tercera, la de las traducciones ignotas, que han dejado de serlo en alguna medida. Lo hecho, con sus defectos y virtudes, está a la vista, sometido al criterio de cuantos a ellas, las tres colecciones, se hayan acercado o se puedan acercar en tiempo más o menos futuro. No es este el momento, ni de disculpas, ni de reivindicaciones. Pero sí lo es de otra cosa muy esencial: conviene, así que han pasado cinco años, que no es nada y que son mucho, agradecer a todos aquellos y aquellas que, siempre excediéndose e inundando de generosidad el alcance de sus posibilidades, han apoyado desinteresadamente, en todo instante, esta labor esencialmente colectiva: autores, traductores, autores de reseñas, investigadores, docentes, profesionales de la traducción y la interpretación, estudiantes de traducción, miembros de los diversos comités, correctores, expertos, revisores, personal, artistas gráficos, impresores, distribuidores, libreros, bibliotecarios, funcionarios, políticos, lectores, etc. Gracias a todos. So distant yet so near. In another century. A lustrum is nothing more than a seven-letter word, of small importance when compared to the age of the mountains and the Earth, to the stars in the heaven, or to the timeless gods. Nevertheless, how much it means when it is restricted to slow, arduous time, to daily routine, to the cooperative camaraderie involved in carrying out a project consisting of three periodicals! As many are already aware, the first was a collection of articles concerning translation, interpreting, and related disciplines; the second an assortment of intellectual manuals giving rise to reflection; and the third dedicated to unknown translations, which, to a certain extent, are no longer so obscure. The three periodicals are finished, and their defects and virtues are on display, awaiting the opinion of all those who have read them or may do so in the near future. This is not the moment for excuses or vindications. It is, however, the opportune moment to acknowledge an important debt: now is the time, after five years, which is deceptive, to express thanks to all those who have supported, selflessly and constantly, this essentially collective effort, those who have gone beyond the call of duty and generously given of themselves to the limit -authors, translators, reviewers, researchers, professors, professional translators and interpreters, translation students, members of various committees, correctors, experts, editors, personnel, graphic artists, printers, distributors, book sellers, librarians, bureaucrats, politicians, readers, etc. Thanks to all.
