INTRODUCTION
NTEGRATED op ical echnology ypically employs uniax-

ial dielec ic c ys alline ma e ials, such as li hium nioba e
(LiNb03) and li hium an ala e (LiTaOs),

ob ain low loss
op ical wa eguides. Se e al wa eguide ab ica ion echniques
ha e been ex ensi ely de eloped in pas yea s and, as a esul ,
he in ol ed echnology has become ma u e [l]. Modula-
o s, swi ches, pola iza ion con olle s, il e s, and co ela o s,
among o he high-pe o mance de ices o signal p ocessing,
signal ou ing and sensing, ha e been demons a ed in in e-
