TheKINDEXmumscreenhasbeendesignedtobeadministeredbygynecologistsandmidwives
duringpregnancyfortheassessmentofthemainpsychosocialdevelopmentalriskfactors,which
includetraumaticexperiencesoftheparents,intimatepartnerviolence,drugabuse,ahistoryof
mentalhealthproblems,poverty,acutestress,andothers.Inaddition,wehavedevelopedaself‐
assessmentversionthatrunsontabletcomputers(iPads).ValidationoftheKINDEXhasbeen
successfully completed in Germany, Spain, Greece, and Peru. Gynecologists or midwives
interviewed80120pregnantwomenineachcountry.Arandomizedsubsampleofrespondents
wasassessedbytrainedclinicalpsychologistsusingstandardizedstructuralinterviewstoassess
perceived stress and mental disorders. 14‐months after giving birththenewmotherswere
interviewedagainandthepredictivevalueofthe KINDEXwasassessedbystructuredclinical
interviewsandtheanalysisofthecortisollevels(depositedinhairoveramonth)ofmotherand
childasindicatorforstress.TheresultsshowthattheKINDEXassessesvalidinformationabout
existing risk factors through a structured 15‐minute interview withthepregnantwomenor
through the application of this instrument as self‐rating on a tabletcomputer.Thetablet
computerapplicationinadditiontothepaperpencilversionhas the advantage of automatic
analysisofthedataandinstantrecommendationforfurthersupportofthepregnantwoman.
