Lietuvos Republic standard "Principles and methods of ir terminology" From 1990 m. of January 1 d. entered into force Lietuvos Republic standard (Lithuanian RST) 1115—90 Principles and Methods of ir Terminology (run ex.), 250 prepared according to international standard ISO 704—87. Si the standard was prepared by University of Vilnius ir Employees of the Lithuanian Language Institute; ir approved set date of entry into force Quality ir Department of Standardization. The standard consists of five chapters ir four appendices. The first section specifies the scope of use of this ir standard. The second section presents international documents that may be needed in the development of ir terminology management. In the third chapter "Concepts" explains what is a concept, the content of the concept, scope, concept systems. The relationships of concepts are discussed. There are two je types of hierarchical relationships: hierarchical and non-hierarchical. ir Hierarchical relationships divided į into relatives —species-relatiir ons of the whole—part. Non-hierarchical relationships -- are the interface of ir time and space or the causal relationship. ir The whole of the concepts in any field forms a system in which each concept occupies a certain place. The meaning of the conceptual system in terms management is indicated. Examples du of graphical representation of concept systems are presented. Concepts are classified according to the characteristics that help to distinguish one concept of a particular field from another. Signs can be internal external, essential ir non-essential. ir In the fourth chapter "Definitions" provides a general definition of mo scope. The purposes of the definition shall be listed. The definition is the basis for the analysis of terminology. ir There are two main types of definitions used in terminology: intentional and extensive definitions. ir The definitions of all the concepts comprising the system must be harmonised with each su other. Requirements to be met in the definition are discussed. They are as follows: |. The definition must reflect the essential characteristics of the concept. 2. Adequacy of definitions. 3. Systematics of definitions. 4. Shortness of definitions. 99 Descriptions can be supplemented with illustrations (photographs, ir drawings, drawings, etc.). The fifth section, “Terms”, covers the following: I. General understanding of the term. 2. Term structure ir term formation. 3. Term systems. 4. The ir relationship of the term concept. 5. Requirements for the ir selection of terms. 6. Abbreviations ir of abbreviations. 7. Transliteration of Latin terms. ir 8. Management of Lithuanian terms. A — term is a word or a combination of words used to designate a concept. Thus, the term, like any word, ir consists of the following elements: root, affixes (prefix, suffix), ending. The main ways of creating terms are: I. Change the value. 2. Syntactic method. 3. Changing the syntactic category. 4. Morphological method of — connecting ir root affixes. 5. Creating abbreviations. 6. Term lending. The relationship of the term ir concept is discussed. The following requirements apply to each term: 1. Linguistic correctness. 2. Accuracy of data. 3. Conciseness. 4. Operating comfort. 5. Unequivocal correspondeir nce of the term concept. In the sections "Definitions", "Definitions" ir The terms explained are illustrated by examples. As already mentioned, there are four annexes to this standard. The first annex contains definitions of the main terms used in the standard, the second graphical abbreviations of terms.
