Terminology | 2008 | 15 249 DIANA ŠILOBRITAITĖ Institute of Lithuanian Language In 2008, the Lithuanian Language Institute published an annotated bibliographical index of Lithuanian term dictionaries from 1900 to 2005, prepared by Jolanta Gaivenytė-Butler, Stasys Keinys and Adele Noreikaitė, all of whom are members of the Terminology Centre. This is a very important and useful publication, which describes over 500 translation, interpretation, encyclopedic and interpretation translation dictionaries, glossaries and bulletins of various fields of terms containing Lithuanian terms. The index consists of the St. Kenis Lithuanian prefix, a few words from the accompanying dictionaries' bibliography index (7–8), the English prefix Accompanying words to the bibliographical index of dictionaries of terms (9–11), Bibliography of dictionaries of terms (13–228), Systemic index (229–235), Systemic index in English (236–242), Index of personal names (243–252) and a list of literature. (253–256). In the bibliography, the dictionaries of terms are presented chronologically and are numbered: 4 dictionaries of terms were recorded before the declaration of independence of Lithuania (1918), 8 during the independence period (1918–1940), 168 during the occupation period (1940–1990), and 320 dictionaries of terms, glossaries, etc., were published after regaining independence (1990–2005). Annotations are written for almost all dictionaries, indicating the type, structure, purpose and approval of the dictionaries. It is also indicated which dictionary is released on a CD. The titles of the publications in English are given after the annotations. The systematic index presents the groups of all the above mentioned dictionaries: 1. General section, 2. Philosophy, Psychology, Ethics, 3. Religion, Theology, 4. Social sciences, 5. Mathematics, Natural sciences, 6. Applied sciences, Medicine, Technology, 7. Art. Games. Sports, 8. Linguistics. Philology. Literature, 9. 250 Geography. History. Each section is divided into subsections, and these are even more detailed, for example, the subsection of the General Section Computer Science, Technology and Use (other subsections of the mentioned section are General Science and Cultural Subjects, Librarianship and Bibliography, Journalism) is divided into Computer Programs, Computer Technology and Computer Networks, etc. There is one other dictionary in the index that does not contain Lithuanian terms (e.g. Check-list of Lithuanian Lepidoptera). There are also encyclopedias of Lithuanian language, medicine, music, technology, agriculture, journalism, others are not included. Other non-dictionary publications and terminology standards are not included. It is worth mentioning that dictionaries of a certain field, published in separate volumes, are also presented in a separate section, for example, 29 volumes of technical terms prepared by the Terminology Commission of the Institute of Energy and Electrical Engineering of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences in 1960–1969. The bibliographic index of Lithuanian term dictionaries is intended for a wide range of readers: terminologists, language practitioners, dictionaries and anyone interested in the Lithuanian language.
