At the end of the book there is a list of Lithuanian and English abbreviations and acronyms, lists of the most important tourism organizations, tourism magazines published in various countries, names of the most important airlines and their IATA codes and world currencies, as well as an index of English-Lithuanian terms. Lithuanian terms are interspersed. The dictionary was discussed by VLKK, but not approved. The publication is intended for geologists working in scientific and practical work, higher education lecturers and students, teachers and pupils, translators, natural and other scientific specialists, everyone interested in geology. The first volume explains 3842 most important and commonly used terms of various branches of geology, as well as natural and other sciences related to geology. The Lithuanian term is accompanied by its English, German and Russian equivalents and a detailed Lithuanian explanation. The origin of non-Lithuanian terms is explained, the author of the term and the year of publication are indicated. Synonyms are provided. At the end of the glossary are short Greek and Latin glossaries, and in the appendices are tables “International Precambrian Stratigraphic Scale”, “International Stratigraphic Scale”, “Approximation of Pleistocene Magnetostratigraphic Scales and Marine Oxygen Isotope Stages to Regional Divisions” and “Late Ice Age and Holocene Stratigraphic Schema”. The six-language translation dictionary contains 12,470 names of bird classes (orders, suborders, families, subfamilies, tribes, genera and species) according to modern bird class systematics. According to the preface of the dictionary, so far “there were only about 1500 Lithuanian names of bird species in the world”. More than 11,000 new Lithuanian names are presented for the first time. The dictionary is intended for scientists, environmental specialists, students, translators and anyone interested in birds. After the Latin name of each systematic group is indicated who and when first described that group and the corresponding names in Lithuanian, English, German, French and Russian. Lithuanian names are spelled correctly. At the back are alphabetical arrows in Lithuanian, English, German, French and Russian. This dictionary is the third in a series of dictionary on vertebrates of the world prepared by the Institute of Ecology (the “Dictionary of Mammals’ Names” prepared by the authors’ collective was published in 2002, the “Dictionary of Fish Names” compiled by J.
