Seminar “Terminology for Europe” ASTA MITKEVIČIENĖ Institute of the Lithuanian Language On 13 July 2018, the “Terminology for Europe: CEF eTranslation TermBank project workshop” was held in Vienna (Austria). The seminar was organized in conjunction with the annual International Terminology Summer School—the leading and largest international school for terminologists. The final day of the International Terminology Summer School was devoted to this seminar, organized by the “eTranslation TermBank” project1 partners: Tilde (Latvia, project coordinator), the University of Copenhagen (Denmark), the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies (Iceland), the Institute of the Estonian Language (Estonia), the Jožef Stefan Institute (Slovenia), the International Terminology Network (TemNet, Austria), the Institute for Language and Folklore (Sweden), the Swedish Centre for Terminology, and the Institute of the Lithuanian Language. The seminar opened with a presentation entitled “Terminology and Intellectual Property Rights” by Christian Galinski of the International Information Centre for Terminology (Infoterm). He was followed by representatives of Tilde: Andrejs Vasiljevs spoke about the Connecting Europe Facility and European Language Resource Coordination (ELRC), while Tatjana Gornostaja spoke about the “eTranslation TermBank” project. The seminar then featured presentations under a common theme: the national terminology landscape. Gabriele Sauberer of TermNet spoke about the state of terminology work in the German-speaking countries of Austria and Germany. Her presentation was followed by Jürgen Kotzian (ELRC), who introduced the Austrian language resources portal, and Damir Čuljat (German Bundestag), who discussed terminology management in the German Bundestag. 1 The “eTranslation TermBank” project was co-funded by the European Commission’s Connecting Europe Facility. Terminologija | 2018 | 25 243 The state of Icelandic terminology work was presented by Gunnhildur Stefánsdóttir (Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies; co-author of the presentation: Ágústa Þorbergsdóttir); Swedish terminology work by Simon Dahlberg (Institute for Language and Folklore) and Marie van Dorrestein (Swedish Institute for Standards); Danish terminology work by Lina Henriksen (University of Copenhagen; co-author: Sussi Olsen); Latvian terminology work by Māris Baltiņš (State Language Centre); Lithuanian terminology work by Asta Mitkevičienė (Institute of the Lithuanian Language; co-author: Albina Auksoriūtė); and Slovenian terminology work by Andraž Repar (Jožef Stefan Institute). The presentations clearly revealed both substantial differences in terminology work between countries and commonalities. In the final part of the seminar, Rodolfo Maslias (European Parliament) spoke briefly about the EurTerm and TermCoord terminology resources; Barbara Heinisch (University of Vienna) about terminology, research infrastructures, and the digital humanities; Thierry Declerck (German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence) about formal relationships between terminology and lexicography; and S. Dahlberg shared his experience of collecting terminology resources from abroad. Munkhtsetseg Namsrai (Institute of Language and Literature, Mongolian Academy of Sciences), a participant in the International Terminology Summer School, presented terminology work in Mongolia.
