This encyclopedic reference work grew out of an explanatory dictionary of beekeeping terms that its author began compiling a couple of decades ago. The publication was issued on the occasion of Vytautas Salinka’s ninetieth birthday. In addition to terms relating to beekeeping and associated fields, the publication also includes facts about the history of beekeeping, biographical information about promoters of Lithuanian beekeeping and Lithuanian and foreign scholars distinguished in this field, information on apitherapy, and detailed descriptions of many plants. The preface to the reference work provides interesting information about the history of Lithuanian beekeeping terminology. Alongside the Lithuanian terms are German, English, and Russian equivalents, as well as Latin names. The arrangement is alphabetical. Some terms are presented in clusters. Many cross-references to related terms are included; these also link cognate and species terms. Lithuanian synonyms are abundant. The abbreviation ntk. marks terms that are not recommended. Lithuanian terms are marked for stress. The reference work is richly illustrated.
