In 2009, three language programmes were continued: the “Legal and Administrative Supervision of the State Language”, the Programme for the Preservation of Dialects and Ethnic Place Names 2001–2010 and the Programme for the Standardization, Use, Education and Dissemination of the State Language 2006–2015. The staff of the Language Commission actively participated in the preparation of the amendment to Article 135 of the Statute of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, which is very important for the quality of the terms used in legislative acts. This article includes a provision that the explanatory note submitted to the Seimas together with each draft law must state whether the draft law has been prepared in accordance with the requirements of the State Language Act, the Act on the Procedure for the Preparation of Laws and Other Legislative and Regulatory Acts and complies with the norms of the common Lithuanian language, and whether the concepts of the draft law and the terms naming them have been assessed in accordance with the procedure established by the Terms Bank Act and its implementing legislation. Comments and proposals were submitted to various institutions on 10 draft laws and other legislative acts.
