GARGASAITĖ Plikiai (plikė) is a settlement 12 km north-east of Klaipėda. During the dialectological expedition in 1959, during the study of the dialect in the villages of Plikiai, Pakamoriū, Šimkū and Šatriū, an interesting phonetic phenomenon was observed — the diphthong -ai at the end of the word turns into -vo. A. Becenberger has observed the consonantization of the diphthong ai in the dialect of the Klaipėda and Priekulė districts since the end of the 19th century. The consonant diphthong ai is marked by Becenberger as d, e.g.: rankdtas, rankaités®, žėddszei ",Žiedaičiai". The author says that the d is pronounced as an o, inclined to a long a. Sometimes the author heard a clear, light o°. This is also the case with the diphthong a: in Prussian and other Baltic languages. He says that in Lithuanian dialects, the strong initial diphthong ai can turn into d, and this further into d, cf. diszkus > dszkus > dszkus. However, R. Trautman gives examples of consonantization not only of the strong initial (ddkrts), but also of the strong final (vdks) diphthong ai. The author also notes that the rule that only'strong-initiated diphthongs can be unisonized is not strict." In addition, the two-year contract with the Knicks was extended to the quarterback. He notes that in the northern part of the Klaipėda dialect a' < ai is pronounced 2°, e.g.: § mks ~ Siffikai, rd'sd" ~ Risai, plg. mar3Jj' ~ *matai?. According to the uneven pronunciation of ai, V. Fenclau divides the Klaipėda dialect into the northern, where ai > 2, and the southern, where ai > a’, and gives an isogloss of this phenomenon. The southern dialect of Klaipėda is spoken in Rufipiškė, Pėmpininkai, Švėpeliai, Lūžai, Pociai (?), Paugai, Alksniai, Eglynai and Smilgynai. Barškiai, Sudmantai, Lypkiai, Difvupiai, Leliai, Diūviečiai, Baūgštininkai, Jokšai and Šatriai are the first villages on the border, spoken in the northern dialect*. 1 Paper read at a dialectological conference in 1959. In the Plikių apylinkės dialect the word end diphthong -ai virsta -#o (pronouno su ced with a slight » shade) in case it stands with a hard consonanpo t, e.g.: bdlt46 baltai, géruo ~ gerai, matu0 matši?, ~ Diphthong at the end ~ of a word -a:, soft po consonant consonant -e:, pronounced e, e.g.: bjauré: ši" pavasari bova šalt bjauré spring was cold biaūriai; ~ šį grėžė: prėkuliškė gragé kalb priekuliškiai gražiai kalba. ~ Diphthong at the end of a word -ai virsta -*0: 1. a-root nouns in the plural of the nominative verb, e.g. : "£ri's bæržuo ~ tris biržus, pėnki siū'nuo ~ penki sūnūs, plvdni rišbud ~ plonki riibai". 2. ‘in the plural inaginine of ir a-stem pronouns, e.g. tus su Vaistuds: manė gėrkli rėk patėpi vos su vaistbs mūnie ~ “I” need to smear the geek with su those drugs; su claw: cap, a su nagvas imsi as, ~ ar su with nails imsi; pu paraluds: lie down pu in your ~ sheets. po Most likely, by analogy -ai at the end of a word sometimes turns -‘o ir po soft consonant, if a word with a diphthong is next to it -a: hard po consonant, e.g.: pėnikuos, su kėtūtuos su pėnikuos : su vežėmuos kėrūtuos i ūrkininkuo 105 miešlus pūrdi'mu0 vėštę ~ su five wagons ir four liūob farmers manure blowing to carry “smoking”. 3. o-kamieniy pronoun ir singular noun, e.g.: švės+0; vėšėmos krudvus pi" aš ės miėneša švėsu0 ~ aš I've broken my carriage. py "prie" ménesio šviesasa0 i; rankud: what is 6 my runkud ~ what is my rafikai; Tell me 6 your : aš pleasure6 s. ~ aš I'll tell you. The material shows that the end of the word diphthong -ai transformation -*o In the Plaki dialect there is a ne morphologicao l, phonetic phenomenon, because the translation usually occurs in different parts of the speech in a certain phonetic position, namely, after a hard consonant. In general, the two-vowels in the Zemgalian language tend ai ir ei to unify. However, it must be assumed that the unification of the two-voices is not old. ai ir ei In the Catechism of Mažvydas Das Siidmemeler Lithuanian is still spoken in Rumpischken, Neuhof, Schweppeln and Schuscheiken - Jahn, Podszeit - Stankus, Paugen, Bajohr-Mitzko, Eglienen and Schmillgienen. Diphthongs at the end of a word -a deviation, probably, will have gone further than elsewhere in Žemaitija. Initially, ai became consonant and in place of af, or was pronounced. Furthermore, a' will be transformed into d, cf. the transitional sound between a and o in the vicinity of Klaipėda (Kaiklininkai, Melnragė), e.g.: vd'ks ~ vaikas (V. Fenclau notation 9°: Boks ~ vaikas®), which indicates the half-finished process of transformation of a into o. Furthermore, the vowel o may have been slightly diphthongated, as with other pronounced o endings in the Plikių dialect, e.g.: dnuds ~ ands, dn40 ~ and, šaktoms ~ šakės "branches- ". It is worth noting that the word root a: has a different fate: here ai rarely becomes consonant, e.g.: ddkta ~ thing. Most often, he remains healthy, e.g. kerdditis ~ kerdéitis,„,- „shepherd boy, paiks ~ paikas „stupid“, vaikėlis ~ vaikélis. The word stem ei in Plikių dialect consonates more often than az, e.g.: rék ~ reikia, éf ~ eiti, patékte ~ patéigti "to tell", léd ~ léida,,leid?ia", nors véizu ~ véizu "I'm looking". Thus, the diphthong -ai of the Plikiai dialect has gone through a much longer evolution path than the root ai, since the word end -ai in this dialect, as in other Žemaičių dialects, has been regularly consonantized. It should be assumed that this word ending -ai transformation -*0 is not an old phenomenon. Instead, it is the result of a further change of the diphthong -ai, which probably occurred after Mažvydas' time. KOHEHBIA ĮHOTOHT -ai B NJIAKAKACKOM FOBOPE Hi. A.
