He was a prolific linguist, ir and contributką ed significantly to the development of the į Lithuanian language. Meanwhile, we will briefly mention the most important A. Sali's linguistic works ir jo distinguished Lithuanian linguist. A. The Islands were born 1902 m. V. A. Salys was not a closed-office scientist. He maintained extensive scientific contacts with linguists from various su countries, was a member of several international linguistic societies, editor of linguistic journals, editor of the linguistics section of the ir Lithuanian encyclopedia published in the USA. A. Salys actively participated in scientific organizational work, 1939—1941 m. as head of the Lithuanian Language Department of the Institute of Lithuanian Studies, 1941 —1944 m. Director of the Lithuanian Language Institute, chairman and member of various terminology commissions, member of the surname place names ir commission, etc. A. The language of the language was very productive ir and complex. He has done significant work in dialectology, lexicography, onomastics, terminology, language culture and other fields, in which he contributed greatly to the development of Lithuanian language science. A. Salys has done a great deal of research on Lithuanian dialects. When the university began to teach Lithuanian dialectology, it became necessary to prepare a manual of Lithuanian dialectology, so that Lithuanian students would have something to learn about Lithuanian dialects. The knowledge published by J. Juška, A. Baranauskas, K. Jaunius and others about Lithuanian dialects and their classification could not replace a textbook of Lithuanian dialectology, and A. Salys passionately takes on the task of preparing an overview course of Lithuanian dialects. He collects dialectological material himself and tries to involve students and teachers in this work. For this purpose, he prepared several extensive questionnaires (surveys) for collecting dialectological material and sent them to various scientific institutions and schools. Together with others, he took care of the organization of 257 special dialectological courses, in which a considerable number of dialect descriptors were trained, who in the future had to work a lot on the study of Lithuanian dialects. For the phonetic training of dialectologists and other linguists, A. Salys established a phonetic laboratory at Kaunas University, which helped students to become better acquainted with the phonetics of dialects. The result of several years of intensive work was A. Salis’s course on Lithuanian dialects, the summary of which,,Lietuviy kalbos tarmės“ was published in 1935. It provided a detailed classification of dialects and highlighted the phonetic and other characteristics of individual dialects. This rate was also used in Soviet years; it will also be important for the study of Lithuanian dialectology. A. Salys successfully continued the historical studies of Lithuanian dialects started by A. Baranauskas and others and published the first part of his dissertation “Žemaičių tarmės” (German, 1930) devoted to the issues of the formation (history) of the Žemaičių linguistic area. In addition to this work of historical dialectology, A. Salys has published several articles on the history of dialects. In addition to his work on the study of the Lithuanian dialects, A. Salys also took up the work of editing and publishing descriptions of individual dialects. He edited the second edition of the dialect monographs series,,Lietuvių kalbos tarmės“ (P. Jonikos,,Pagramanto tarmė“, m.). 1939 In the post-war years, A. Salis’ dialectological works helped Lithuanian students to familiarize themselves with the basics of Lithuanian dialectology, with the methodology of dialect description, which was passed on to the new generation of linguists by A. Salis’ former pupils J. Senkus, E. Mikalauskaitė and others. As a result, it was possible to rapidly expand and carry out dialectological work, collecting material from more than 700 localities for the dialect atlas of Lithuanian language, describing individual dialects, preparing a summary work on Lithuanian dialects. ; A. Salys has done significant work in Lithuanian lexicography. He is one of the authors and editors of the bilingual five-volume “Lietuviy Zodyno of the Written Language”, which contains the equivalents of the German language and was published in Heidelberg (1932—1968- ). From the third volume onwards, A. Salys provided a lot of folk language, especially the Žemaičių dialektas, lexicon for this dictionary, significantly enriching the Lithuanian part of the dictionary. It is one of the largest dictionaries of the Lithuanian language, which is significantly surpassed in terms of word abundance by the academic,,Lietuviu kalbos žodynas“ (Dictionary of the Lithuanian language- ), which is published only now. The German equivalents enable the aforementioned dictionary of A. Salis and other authors to be used by Indo-European language researchers, for whom the greatest sources of Lithuanian language lexicon were previously G. Neselman and Fr. There are several dictionaries of the Curonian language with fewer words. For several decades, A. Salys collected material for a historical dictionary of Lithuanian language, in order to trace the development of the lexicon, the history of words from the earliest times to the present day. For this purpose he visited Soviet Lithuania in 1969 and collected material for the dictionary from the academic “Lietuviy kalbos žodynas” and other sources. He agreed to prepare a small historical dictionary, covering mainly the vocabulary of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, in the care and standardization of which he himself took an active part. It is a pity that Mr Sali's idea has not been implemented. A. Salys also contributed to the preparation and improvement of the great Lithuanian language dictionary. For several years he was a member of the Scientific Commission of the Dictionary, actively participated in discussing various lexicographical issues that are still relevant today (e.g., transcription of dialectically written words and phrases into literary language, identification of borrowed homonyms, presentation of adjectives with conjugated forms, etc.). A. Salys paid much attention to real names (personal names, place names, water names, genus names, etc.) 258 ir ir ir ir collection, dictionaries for ir research. There are hundreds of thousands of such names in Lithuanian. A jų considerir able collection began to exploreti K. Buga, greatly appreciating “The language of the land” as an important source of knowledge about the nation’s past. K. One of the most active among the continuers of the Bog's work was A. Salys, 1933 m. member of the Commission on Surnames and Placenames. After the publication of the “Instruction for the Lithuanian Land Register” in 1999, teachers, foresters, land managers, students and others helped to (1934 ir 1940 m. was collected the largest part of the dictionary, which is now preserved, filled ir Institute of ir Lithuanian Language and Literature. Very productive was A. Salys in the work ir of creating and managing Lithuanian terminology. He was a member of several committees and committees of the National Academy of Sciences, and a member of several scientific and technical committees. Having a good, quick language orientation, a deep sense of language, he easily and quickly found the right term in the popular language or created it himself. Hundreds of folk words were used in a narrower, broader figurative meaning and were terminologised over time, e.g.: slogutis „nightmare“, nuospaudas „pressing press“, grūdalas, „grinding mortar“, prašvaitas „lighted place in photographic negative“ and so on. Many terms he has successfully created, and they have become established in the usage, e.g.: attitude, light-measuring, distance-measuring, reflection, joint, surprise jo ar ir ir t. t. A. Sali was also concerned with the promotion of literary language, standardization and other matters of language culture. He followed closely the development of literary language and reacted quickly and lively to the issues of language that appeared in language practice, especially in the press. For the purposes of language practice, he and others started publishing the language journal,,Native Language”, in which he actively cooperated, examining various subjects of language practice. Some of his published articles are interesting even today, because they touch on topical issues, e.g.: Lithuanian names, surnames, abbreviations, etc. In one of the daily newspapers, A. Salio started the “Language section”, which paid constant attention to everyday language usage, corrected language, provided new words and terms, advised how to use various words and constructions. For spelling learning A. Salys translated the chrestomatia,,Vargo mokyklai” I and II parts. Thus, A. Salys made a great contribution to uncovering the soil of Lithuanian linguistics, organizing and carrying out new researches, preparing linguistic cadres and raising language culture. During his exile, he maintained close ties with the Lithuanian Language and Literature Institute. with linguists of Soviet Lithuania, followed and positively evaluated their work, had come to his homeland to collect linguistic material. He was always drawn to his native land, to his native language, to the study of which he devoted his whole soul. A. Salys enriched Lithuanian linguistics with significant works, which are used and will be used for a long time by our philologists, with respect mentioning their author, who deserved much to Lithuanian studies.
