CHRONICLE OF THE LITHUANIAN LANGUAGE INSTITUTE 1992 Structure 6 departments: Dictionary (headed by Ph.D. V. Vitkauskas), Grammar (headed by Ph.D. V. Ambrazas- ), Language Culture (headed by Ph.D. P. Kniūkšta), Terminology (headed by Ph.D. K. Gaivenis), Vocabulary (headed by Ph.D. V. Maciejauskienė), Language History and Dialectology (vad. philosopher. m. cand. K. (Morris). On May 26, the Publishing Group was established. Mr. Gružas was appointed as the manager. At the end of 1992, the Institute employed 105 people, including 73 researchers (5 PhDs and 27 candidates). The LKI and VDU PhD programmes in Linguistics were attended by doctoral students. The following research areas were funded from the budget of the Republic of Lithuania: study of the grammatical structure of Lithuanian language, Lithuanian lexicography, Lithuanian onomastics, Lithuanian language standardization culture, study and 7 standardization of the office language, Lithuanian terminology, study of Lithuanian language dialects, history of Lithuanian language. In June—July, 5 expeditions were organized to collect data on the Lithuanian language: 4 dialectological expeditions (Valkininkai, Dieveniškiai; Balbieriškis; Suginčiai, Mindūnai, Labanoras; Skuodas district) and 1 dictionary expedition (Zarasai district). The expeditions were led by L. Grumadienė, D. Mikulėnienė, B. Vanagienė, A. Vidugiris, -K. Vosylytė. A total of 42 people collected dialects, vocabulary and sociolinguistic material. At the International Regional Council on the Standardization and Use of Toponyms in the Baltic States, held in Tallinn on 7-8 May, V. Maciejauskienė ("Status of Lithuanian Place Names Collection and Publication") and M. Razmukaitė ("Lithuanian and Ethnic Place Names in Cartographic Works") made presentations. : From 8 July to 29 August S. Karaliūnas was on a scientific mission in Iceland. He worked at the University Library of Iceland and the Arni Magnusson Institute. He attended the International Icelandic Language Summer Courses. At the International Terminology Conference in Riga on August 17-19, A. Kaulakienė ("Relationships between international and Lithuanian terms in physics") and A. Auksoriūtė ("Theory of terminology of Stasys Šalkauskas"; prepared together with K. Gaivenas, S. Keinis, R. Medišauskienė) read presentations. At the conference on October 3, dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the Magdeburg rights granted to the city of Akmena, E. Valiulytė read the report "Kalikstas Kasakauskas and his Lithuanian language grammar (1832)". | November 1 — December 31 S. Karaliūnas was invited by the Centre for Baltic Studies of the University of Stockholm to conduct an internship at the Universities of Stockholm and Uppsala. He worked in the Northern Territory. On November 5-6, the Department of Language History and Dialectology organized a scientific conference "Dialets of Lithuanian language and their studies. Past and Present" to commemorate Antanas Salis (1902—1972). The lectures were read by lecturers of VU, VPU, ŠPI and the following researchers of the Institute: A. Sabaliauskas ("Professor A. Čepienė ("The origin of the bivowel ui in German borrowings"), D. Mikulėnienė ("The development of the prefix *pakirčiavimas in derived nouns"), K. Garšva ("Consonantism of the speakers of the sub-regional Dzūkijos"- ), L. Grumadiené ("Kirčiuočių mixing in the language of Punsko youth"), K. Morkūnas ("Several remarks on the boundaries of the prefix"), V. Pranskūnaitė ("Names of sheep and lamb in dialects", according to A. Salis' "Survey I"), G. Rimkuvienė ("Dalelytė gali and its synonyms in dialects"), A. Vidugiris ("On the stages of Slavification in South-East Lithuania- "), V. Vitkauskas ("On the variants of the compounds an, en, un in certain words and their forms"). The conference was attended by A. Salis’s relatives — his wife Sofija and daughter Rimgaila, who came from the USA to tell their memories. 246

Greenwich. December 17—18 d. At an international conference in Riga " Kalpolitibų ka in the Baltic States" A. Vanagas made a post "Legal regulation of the use of languages "Lithuania". The Statute of the Lithuanian Language Institute was approved on 28 January 2009 (Decision of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania No. No. 58). On 15 December the Institute of Lithuanian Language and Vytautas Magnus University were granted the right to offer doctoral degrees in the field of linguistics in the humanities (Decision No. No. 944).
