At the end of 1993, the Institute had 106 employees, including 31 scientists (5 doctors of science and 26 doctors). L. Bilkis and V. Kupjoined the PhD programmes of LKI and VDU. revival. In total, 4 doctoral students studied in the doctoral program. The following research topics were funded from the budget of the Republic of Lithuania: 1) study of the grammatical structure of Lithuanian language (Lithuanian functional grammar; Lithuanian syntax studies; Lithuanian peripheral contacts); 2) Lithuanian lexicography (Dictionary of the Lithuanian language, vols. 18, 19); 3) Lithuanian onomastics (preparatory work for the Lithuanian place-name dictionary; theoretical studies of Lithuanian onomastics; collection of new material for the dictionary); 4) functioning and standardization of the current Lithuanian common language (language culture; functioning and changes of the current language; compilation of the language management information base); 5) Lithuanian terminology (development of Lithuanian terminology; standardization of scientific language); 6) study of Lithuanian dialects (Atlas of Lithuanian language; Atlas of European languages; Study of Eastern Lithuanian dialects); 7) history of Lithuanian language (history of Lithuanian language research; development of Lithuanian noun construction; linguistic works of S.Daukanto; Lithuanian linguistics bibliography; lexicon of ancient writings). The Department of Language History and Dialectology organized 3 expeditions: 1) From 1 to 10 July dr. The expedition led by G. Subačius worked in Skuodas district, Šatei. Material collected for the Mosėdis dialect dictionary (1,5 thousand words), answered to 4 questionnaires of the "Language facts collection program", "Survey 1" questions. Recorded on a tape recorder 30 hours of dialect texts. 2) from 7 to 15 July students of Vilnius Pedagogical University (supervisor —doc. dr. D.Mikulėnienė) worked in Leipalingis (Lazdijai district). Answered to the questions of the "European Atlas of Languages" Long-term program lexicology section, "Language facts collection program" questionnaires, "Lithuanian language dialects and their interaction research program", "Questionnaire 1", recorded 30 hours of dialect texts. 3) From 8 to 16 July a group of second-year students of Vilnius Pedagogical University led by Dr. L. Grumadiene worked in Mielagėnai (Ignalina district). In addition to the traditional expedition work (collection of words, filling out questionnaires, etc.), a phonetic experiment was carried out, the material of the namebook was transcribed from the archives of Mielagėnai church; collected data about the activities of the " Ryto" society. Dr. K. Morkūnas guided and assisted 50 students of Vilnius Pedagogical University who collected facts about the native dialect. Employees of the dictionary department collected language data in their native places: V. Vitkauskas —Kuršėnai, Raudėnai, Tryškiai, Naujosios Akmenės neighborhoods; A. Rimševičienė —in Kaltanėnai; O. Kažukauskaitė — in Teneni; A. Rubinas —in Švedriškė, Kazitiškės, Salakas; "A. Kaluinienė - Šiluvoje". R. Vitkauskas and V. Kuprevičius worked in Kaišiadorys district. In total, 4000 words were collected, 20 hours of dialect texts were recorded. Conferences and international scientific relations At the international conference "Comparative Linguistics of Belarusian, Russian and Polish Languages" held in Vitebsk from 5 to 68 February, D. Mikulėnienė ("Comparation of phonological vowel systems of Lithuanian, Belarusian and Polish languages on the Lithuanian and Belarusian border") and L. Grumadienė ("Anthroponymics of the present Baltic and Slavic border") presented their papers. From 15 March to 1 September A.Romanchuk was intern at the Department of Baltic Languages of the University of Warsaw. He studied the subject of language contacts in Polish linguistics, filled in the monograph "Real names in Lithuanian border dialect" with Lithuanian onomastics material in the Warsaw archives. At the international conference "Baltic and Belarusian Ethnogenezis" held in Minsk on May 21-24, A. Vanagas ("Areal of Baltic place names and the problem of the Slavic homeland"), D. Mikulėnienė ("Influence of Priebalsių *T, *d on 199 the phonological system of Lithuanian dialects of the Lithuanian and Belarusian border"), A. On October 11, 2009, at the conference "Linksnyje kategorija i linksnyji uzivi" organized by the Department of Linguistics and the Department of Lithuanian Language of Vilnius University, lectures were given by L. On November 5, 2016, at the international conference dedicated to Kazimieras Bogus etymology and onomastics, organized by the Department of Baltic Philology of Vilnius University, the following lecturers delivered their papers: L. At the conference "Lithuanian language: studies and teaching- *" held at Vilnius Pedagogical University on 15-16 December, L. Grumadienė ("Teaching translation into Lithuanian from the point of view of language culture*), P. Kniūkšta ("Interconnections of the language culture course with general language education- "), D. Mikulėnienė ("Pronunciation variants from the point of view of norm and system"), A. Vanagas ("Language in Lithuania- ") presented their papers. On February 4, the Institute was visited by Caroline Guimond, an employee of the Canadian Embassy. A. Vanagas introduced the audience to the activities of LKI, reviewed the normative nature of Lithuanian language scientific publications. On 24 February Barry Newman, full-time correspondent of The Wall Street Journal, was received by A. Vanagas, V. Ambrazas, A. Sabaliauskas. The journalist was interested in Lithuanian language, its history of research and current use. On February 27, Barry Newman together with A. Sabaliauskas and K. On 30 March and 6 April, Prof. Dr. Guido Michelini Institute staff and doctoral students read two lectures in Lithuanian about the phenomenology of Simon Vaišnūras' "Margarita theologica" translation and the peculiarities of the word order of Jon Bretkūnas' "Postilas- ". On April 6, German scientists Prof. B. Schlerathas and Dr. E. Bukevičiūtė visited the Institute. The guests got acquainted with the principles of compiling dialect database, dialect research program. On May 6, Swedish linguist Lars-Gunnar Larsson was interested in the latest work of Lithuanian linguists and the possibilities of broader mutual cooperation. Since the guest visited not only LKI, but also Lithuania for the first time, a tour of Vilnius and Trakuss was organized for him. On July 30, Prof. Ikuo Murata from Japan visited LKI. On September 20, the staff of the Department of Language History and Dialectology met with the renowned Russian linguists G. Klimov and J. Edelman. On September 20-22, the Italian scholar Pietro U. Dini was interested in the research of ancient Lithuanian writing. On October 20-22, the Baltic scholars Anatolijus Nepokupnas (Ukraine) and Raineris Eckertas (Germany) participated in the scientific conference in memory of J. Gerulis and read their papers. Resolutions of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania and the Lithuanian Science Council dated 17 March 2009 on the establishment of the Institute and Vytautas 201 they are entitled to grant the degree of doctor of science in the field of linguistics (Baltic studies) (Government Decree No. 176). On May 13, the Lithuanian Science Council and its Commission for Nostrifications nostrified and recognised the scientific degrees and pedagogical scientific titles of the Republic of Lithuania for all the researchers of the Institute in accordance with the procedure established by the Government of the Republic of Lithuania Decree No. 549 of July 15, 1992. On November 4, 2009, the first and third floors (541.77 m?) of the administrative building and the farm building (57.92 m?) of the state publishing house "Mintis" (Z.Sierakausko 15) were handed over to the Institute (Government Decree No. 748p). On June 25, Dr. Elena Valiulytė, Senior Research Associate of the Department of Grammar, turned 60 years old. On June 30, the staff of the Department of Language History and Dialectology remembered their former colleague Tamara Meiksinaitė- -Buchienė (1923 07 08 —1970 02 07). K. Morkunas, Z. Zinkevičius, J. Palionis, V. Ambrazas, A. Vanagas, E. Grinaveckienė, K. Ulvydas spoke sincerely about the scientist’s personality and work. T. Buchienė's sister I.Meiksinaitė participated.
