BALTIC STUDIES PUBLICATIONS FROM SWEDEN In June 1997, the Institute of the Lithuanian Language received from Lund a large consignment of valuable publications, much needed for Baltic studies. Among them, first and foremost, should be mentioned the 17th-century Latvian language monument prepared by Kārlis Draviņš and published in 1961—Georg Elger’s “Gospels and Epistles,” the manuscript of which was discovered during the war years in the Vilnius University Library by Jurgis Gerulis. We received Kārlis Draviņš and Velta Rūķe-Draviņa’s four-volume description of the Stende dialect (1955–1962), Velta Rūķe-Draviņa’s book “On the Development of Children’s Language” (1963), the collection “Studia Linguistica Slavica Baltica” (1966), dedicated to Knut Olaf Falk’s sixtieth birthday, and Jerzy Nalepa’s “Opuscula Slavica” (1973). Until now, only a few copies of these books, published in Lund mostly in the 1950s and 1960s, had been available in Lithuania, since at that time it was not easy for them to reach us through the Iron Curtain. Prof. Baiba Kangere, head of the Department of Baltic Languages at Stockholm University, resolved to fill this gap and arranged for consignments of the aforementioned books through Lund University Library. Now they will be available to everyone, since we received 60 or more copies of each (over 400 books in total). The Institute of the Lithuanian Language has been authorized to distribute the books as it sees fit among Lithuanian Balticists and research libraries.
