Along with some other articles, it formed the basis of A. Rekena’s doctoral dissertation “Lexicography of Southern Latgale dialects”, which was defended in Riga in 1993. Just before his death, A. Rekena had the chance to see the great work of his life — the two-volume “Dictionary of the Kalupes dialect” (Kalupes izloksnes vardnica 1, A-M, 2, N-Z, Riga, 1998). The author was assisted in finishing this beautifully published work by Sarmytė Lagzdinija, Tamara Elstė, Valija Sarkanė, Astra Kremanė-Treimanė, Janis Elksnis, and the final print was prepared by our friend, the former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to Lithuania, Dr. Albertas Sarkanis.
