ACTA LINGUISTICA LITHUANICA XLIV (2003), 191-195 On June 25, 2017, the well-known Lithuanian linguist Elena Valiulytė celebrated her seventieth birthday. She was born in the town of Kuktiškės, Utena county. After graduating from high school, he continued his studies at the University of California, where he graduated in 1953. In the same year, he enrolled at the Faculty of History and Philology of Vilnius University, where he studied Lithuanian language and literature and wrote a diploma thesis on the local dialect of Kuktiškiai. After graduating from the university, she worked for a year as a teacher at Juodenėnai seven-year school in Pabradės district, until Kazys Ulvydas invited her, as a talented linguist, to work at the Lithuanian Language and Literature Institute. Elena Valiulytė worked at the Institute in the Department of Contemporary Lithuanian Literary Language, which was established in 1960 and which later grew into the Department of Grammar. Elena Valiulytė devoted the most active years of her life to her grammar work. In 1966, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the meaning and use of the final prepositions in contemporary Lithuanian language under the supervision of Professor Juozas Balčikonis. She has written the following chapters for the Academic Grammar of Lithuanian: prepositional, verb, noun, numerals, adverbial compounds and complement. She is the co-author of three sections of the Modern Lithuanian Grammar, including the sections on prepositions, conjunctions and conjugations. He published two monographs — Vietą nusakome įvairiai (1995) and Dabartinės lietuvių kalbos syntaksiniai sinonimai (1998), published a number of articles on Lithuanian linguistics (later — Acta Linguistica Lithuanica), Language Culture and other publications. Elena Valiulytė continues to collaborate with the scientific press. He has published a collection of his teacher Kazis Ulvydas's scientific works Lithuanian language adverbs (2000), in which all his works on adverbs are published. Although she is no longer officially working at the Institute, Elena attends the weekly seminars of the Grammar Department on the concept of the New Lithuanian Grammar and is happy to communicate with younger colleagues. We wish Jubiliatei — always a good-natured, friendly, attentive, wise and kind colleague — a lot of energy, health, good mood and long years.
