In his con ex , online helpline se ices ha e eme ged as a ans o ma i e solu ion, o e ing anonymi y, immediacy, and p i acy h ough AI- in eg a ed digi al pla o ms (UN Women, 2022). India has seen a signi ican ise in he use o digi al pla o ms o women’s sa e y and g ie ance ed essal. The Na ional Commission o Women (NCW) eco ded o e 39,000 complain s h ough i s online po al in 2023, an inc ease om 34,000 in 2022, e lec ing bo h he g owing us in digi al mechanisms and he inc easing digi al li e acy among women (NCW, 2023). Pla o ms like 181 Women Helpline, SHE-BOX, Sa eci y, and AI-powe ed cha bo s a e p o iding 24/7 assis ance o issues anging om domes ic iolence and sexual ha assmen o men al heal h counseling and legal aid (Minis y o Women and Child De elopmen , 2022). AI plays a pi o al ole in enhancing he e iciency and scalabili y o hese helpline se ices. Cha bo s embedded wi h Na u al Language P ocessing (NLP) can 163 p o ide eal- ime esponses in mul iple languages, while machine lea ning models assis in so ing complain s by se e i y and loca ion o as e esolu ion. Fo ins ance, he Sa eci y pla o m uses AI o analyze housands o c owd-sou ced epo s o iden i y pa e ns o sexual iolence ac oss u ban spaces, he eby suppo ing p e en i e u ban planning (Sa eci y, 2023). Acco ding o a 2022 su ey conduc ed by UN Women India, while 62% o u ban women we e awa e o online g ie ance po als, only 19% o u al women had e e used o hea d o such pla o ms. This digi al di ide ueled by ac o s like lack o in e ne access, low digi al li e acy, and linguis ic ba ie s p esen s a signi ican challenge in ensu ing equi able access o sa e y se ices (UN Women, 2022). Mo eo e , he e ec i eness o hese pla o ms is o en cons ained by in as uc u al and social issues, including inconsis en ollow-up mechanisms, lack o eal- ime police in eg a ion, and cul u al s igma a ound epo ing abuse. In many cases, ic ims may no ecei e imely in e en ions o ea e alia ion, discou aging hem om engaging wi h online sys ems (Sha ma & Ragha an, 2021). 2. AI-ENABLED HELPLINE PLATFORMS FOR WOMEN ♦ Women Helpline 181 (Go e nmen o India): Launched unde he Ni bhaya Fund in la e 2018, Women Helpline 181 p o ides ound- he-clock eme gency assis ance, linking calle s o police, medical aid, legal suppo , and shel e se ices. As o Ma ch 2025, his scheme has been suppo ed by ₹7,712.85 c o e, wi h ₹5,846.08 c o e u ilized (≈76 %) o und componen s including 181, One S op Cen es, and cybe o ensic labs. In s a es like Punjab and Maha ash a, 181 includes AI-assis ed call edi ec ion and Wha sApp cha bo s, enabling women o eques help ia oice o ex p omp ly dispa ching suppo wi hin he c i ical ‘golden hou ’. ♦ SHE-BOX (Sexual Ha assmen e-Box): Launched by he Minis y o Women & Child De elopmen , SHE-BOX is an online po al enabling women in wo kplaces public o p i a e o ile ha assmen complain s anonymously. The sys em uses AI o iage complain s, di ec hem o in e nal commi ees, and ack esolu ion imelines. Widesp ead ac oss India, SHE-BOX has in eg a ed wi h 181 and One S op Cen es, ensu ing comp ehensi e suppo om iling o esolu ion. ♦ Sa eci y: Ope a ed by he Red Do Founda ion, Sa eci y enables anonymous c owd-sou ced epo ing o ha assmen inciden s and uses AI (Random Fo es and Logis ic Reg ession) o gene a e spa ial hea maps and p edic i e ale s. Teaching women how o na iga e online sa e y po als and AI cha bo s will educe hesi a ion and build use con idence. This can be suppo ed h ough audio- isual aids and hands-on aining in egional languages. Helpline se ices should be equipped wi h mul ilingual AI cha bo s capable o unde s anding local dialec s and egional con ex s. Using Na u al Language P ocessing (NLP) ailo ed o India’s linguis ic di e si y will make pla o ms mo e inclusi e and accessible.
