Despi e he g owing in e es in he ansi ion om he Palaeozoic o he Mesozoic since he end o he 19 h cen u y, i ook decades o publish mo e comp ehensi e s udies o La e Pe mian nau iloids. Reed (1931, 1944) e ised he assemblages om he Sal Range and desc ibed new species. Fo he si es nea he A axes Ri e in he T anscaucasus, i ook e en longe un il he 1960s (Shimansky 1962c, 1965b). In he las decades, a he di e se La e Pe mian nau iloid assemblages we e desc ibed om wo egions: (1) Sou h China: Xu (1977), Zhao e al. (1978), Liang (1984), Zheng (1984), Qin (1986), Yang e al. (1987), Wu & Kuang (1992) and Miao e al. (2021) desc ibed species- ich assemblages om a ious places and di e en acies in he Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Anhui, Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou, Hunan and Guangxi p o inces. (2) Dolomi es: Posena o & P ino h (2004) and P ino h & Posena o (2007) desc ibed a mode a ely la ge sui e o nau iloids om he Changhsingian Belle ophon Fo ma ion and sepa a ed be ween eigh species wi hin i e gene a. In he ollowing, we desc ibe newly assembled nau iloid collec ions om he sou h side o he A as (= A axes) i e in no h-wes e n I an (Fig. 1). These new inds come om ou gene al s a ig aphic uni s, (1) he ea ly Wuchiapingian beds cha ac e ised by he ammonoid genus A axoce as Ruzhence , 1959, (2) he la e Wuchiapingian beds wi h he ammonoid Vedioce as Ruzhence , 1962, (3) he ea ly Changhsingian beds cha ac e ised by he ammonoids I ani es Teiche & Kummel, 1973, Dzhul i es She y e , 1965 and She y e i es Teiche & Kummel, 1973 and (4) he la e Changhsingian Pa a i oli es Limes one (Fig. 2). Fo he s aigh nau iloids, he espec i e numbe s we e 6, 2, 1 and 1. I mus be kep in mind ha 60 pe cen o he axa lis ed by Shimansky (1965b: able 5) we e held in open nomencla u e. Ne e heless, Teiche & Kummel (1973) co ec ly s a ed ha his is an imp essi e lis , which demons a es a high di e si y, pa icula ly o he lowe Jul a beds (A axoce as Beds). Teiche e al. (1973) and Teiche & Kummel (1973) in es iga ed sec ions wes o Jul a on he sou he n (I anian) side o he A as alley. They ound essen ially he same nau iloid assemblages, bu compa ison wi h he aunal lis p o ided by Shimansky (1965b) shows ha some axa we e missing, bu also epo ed he p esence o he h ee addi ional gene a Temnocheilus, Tainionau ilus and Ti anoce as in he I anian assemblages. A e his s udy, nau iloids om he en i e T anscaucasian egion we e only occasionally men ioned. Shimansky (1979b) added h ee addi ional axa (A axonau ilus nodosus Shimansky, 1979, A. sp. and Pa a hiphaeoce as p obum Shimansky, 1979) o he species lis o he La e Pe mian nau iloids o he T anscaucasus. While Flowe & Kummel (1950) and Kummel (1953, 1964) ook a mo e conse a i e app oach, Shimansky (1962a, 1962b, 1965b, 1967) p oposed a much mo e de ailed scheme. Dzik (1984) discussed he phylogeny and i s implica ions o he sys ema ic scheme in g ea de ail and d ew a much mo e complex e olu iona y his o y o he coiled nau iloids. In a e ision o he Ca boni e ous and Pe mian coiled nau iloids by Ko n (2025), a new sys ema ic scheme was p esen ed. This scheme is la gely based on he phylogene ic conside a ions o Ruzhence & Shimansky (1954) as well as Dzik (1984) and is la gely based, wi h some modi ica ions, on he sys ema ic scheme o Shimansky (1967, 1979a). This also means ha i di e s om he equen ly used scheme o he T ea ise on In e eb a e Paleon ology (Kummel 1964). The desc ip ion o he specimens ollows he e minology o conch, o namen and su u e line p oposed by Ko n (2010) and Klug e al. (2015) o he cha ac e isa ion o ammonoids (Fig. 6). The e minology o conch geome y used he e la gely co esponds o ha p oposed by Teiche (1964). The only di e ences conce n he ollowing e ms: umbilical angle o shoulde (= umbilical ma gin) and umbilical a ea (= umbilical wid h). The lis s o gene a and species a e no exhaus i e. The smalle specimen is be e p ese ed and shows he who l p o ile o an inne who l. A a diame e o 16 mm, he conch is globula (ww/ dm = 1.03) wi h a e y na ow umbilicus (uw/dm = 0.10) and a dep essed who l p o ile (ww/wh = 1.90). The who l p o ile shows a shallow do sal in lexion. Al eady on A habe (1900) sugges ed ha i is no clea whe he he h ee species desc ibed by Abich (1878), “Nau ilus excen icus”, “Nau ilus p opinquus” and “Nau ilus conca us”, belong o one single species. The decline o nau iloids is accompanied by a deepening o he habi a (Leda e al. 2014; Gliwa e al. 2020); he nau iloids in he lowe A axoce as Beds occu in associa ion wi h species- ich b achiopod assemblages (Ghade i e al. 2014).
