From Insight to Impact: Building Ethical, Agile, and Human-Centered AI Systems

Goze, Sara

Abstract

This preprint is derived from the author’s invited keynote presentation at the Forum of Advanced Technologies (TechMomentum 2025, Serbia), titled “From Insight to Impact: Building Ethical, Agile, and Human-Centered AI Systems.” The talk presents a cross-disciplinary framework for developing ethical, agile, and human-centered artificial intelligence (AI) across sectors including healthcare, logistics, and digital transformation. Through applied case studies—medical supply-chain harmonization, AI-assisted diabetes management, and behavioral analytics during COVID-19—it illustrates how empathy, explainability, and inclusivity can guide responsible digital innovation. Authored by Sara Goze, IEEE Senior Member and Founder of Cognitek Digital, this work advocates for a model of responsible digitalization that unites technological performance with human purpose. The preprint is released under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License (CC BY 4.0) to support open access, educational use, and future scholarly citation. A peer-reviewed journal version is being prepared for submission to IEEE Technology and Society Magazine and Springer’s AI & Society.

From Insight to Impact: Building Ethical, Agile, and Human-Centered AI Systems Sara GOZE | AI & Digital Health Innovation Leader | Founder, Cognitek Digital | IEEE Senior Member Invited Keynote – Forum of Advanced Technologies (TechMomentum 2025, Serbia) June 12, 2025 Hello from Turkiye! First time in Serbia I already wish I had come sooner — thank you for the warm welcome Let's dive in Ready to explore AI innovation together Why This Talk Matters Women in AI: Just 22% Only 22% of the global AI workforce are women (WEF, 2023), creating a critical gap in perspective and innovation. Tech Leaders: 1 in 10 Women hold only 1/10 of leadership positions in technology companies (BCG, 2022), limiting diverse decisionmaking. Bias Transfer: 100% Biased data creates biased AI systems at an alarming rate, affecting products, services, and decisions worldwide. "If tech is the future, who builds it matters." My Unlikely Path into Tech From medicine to mathematics, across industries to AI, my nontraditional journey combined diverse experiences with determination. Failed med school dream → Pursued Applied Math, Data Science Pivoted from medicine to mathematics and data analysis. Worked in Oil & Gas, Telecom, Healthcare, Supply Chain Built cross-sector expertise that shaped my unique perspective on technology. Completed Master's degree while raising 2 kids, coding at night, and working full-time Balanced family, education, and career through resilience and determination. Built my first AI model Applied my diverse background to create AI solutions bridging industry knowledge gaps. What Breaks Digital Projects? Confused roles Data Scientist ≠ Data Analyst ≠ Data Engineer ≠ BI developer Buzzwords > clarity Fancy terms hiding simple concepts No shared language Tech & business disconnect "The opposite of simplicity isn't complexity — it's confusion." – Edward Tufte Case Study – Medical Supply Chain Challenge Inconsistent 3PL data across 6 regions globally Action Built SAP/non-SAP ETL, harmonized KPIs Result -40% manual workload, 3x faster reports "Less is more." – Mies van der Rohe * No brand names shown due to confidentiality. Case Study – AI Assistant for Diabetes Personal Motivation Family member with Type 1 Diabetes Despite advanced technology, dosing decisions remain complex and stressful AI Solution Intelligent assistant using continuous glucose monitoring data Combines insulin sensitivity, nutrition, and stress factors for comprehensive support Human-Centered Design Never overrides human judgment Supports decision-making while preserving patient autonomy "First, do no harm." – Hippocrates Case Study – COVID Consumer Behavior Analysis Analyzed Mobility Turkey's movement patterns during lockdown Key Finding Grocery + park activity surged unexpectedly Insight Habits change slower than technology Lesson Build sustainable tech, not hype What Real Agility Looks Like Empower teams Give authority with responsibility Build reliable workspace and employee loyalty Create space where failure is learning Prioritize explainability Understanding trumps technical perfection "First help. Then ask."
