Minutes of the meetings of the Ad Hoc Committee on Mitigating Changes in Prokaryotic Nomenclature

CoMiCProN Meeting September 2nd 2025 Minutes Minute 1. Call to order Markus Göker called the meeting to order at 17:00 CEST. Minute 2. Record of attendance Present were: Henrik Christensen, Valerie Collin, Volker Fingerle, Markus Göker, Marko Kostovski, Gabriele Margos, Nancy Moss, Aharon Oren, Udo Reischl and Audrey Schuetz. Apologies were received from Susan Butler-Wu, Rafael Cantón, Karen Carroll, Stefan Emler, Garrett G. Gordy, Joachim Spergser and Jose Vazquez-Boland. Some members joined later or had to leave earlier. Minute 3. Minutes of 2025-08-05 meeting The minutes from the July meeting were reviewed and approved. Minute 4. Matters Arising / Action Points from 2025-08-05 meeting The action items from the August meeting were reviewed. Some could be marked as either completed or obsolete. Others need to be marked as ongoing, either because the people responsible for them could not attend the meeting, or because they had difficulty contacting the relevant people during the holidays. These ongoing items are listed below under “Matters Arising/Action Points” from this meeting. It was suggested that some tasks be abandoned; for example, it seems very difficult to contact those responsible for certain risk group classifications. Regarding the update of the ICSP website, M. Kostovski asked about it and A. Oren asked if M. Göker could edit the CoMiCProN page on the ICSP website. M. Göker noted that he lacks the permissions for most of the pages. Minute 5. Votes on the new candidates for membership in the committee No information had been received regarding new candidates for membership. Minute 6. Report on inactive members and votes on their removal As E.R.B. Moore, who was supposed to contact inactive members, was not present at the meeting, this issue was postponed. It was noted that, in addition to being one of the founding members, E.R.B. Moore was an ex officio member of CoMiCProN as chairman of the ICSP. Minute 7a. Missing contact addresses of multipliers M. Göker emphasised that for some of the multipliers contact addresses are still missing and asked the committee members to add them, as templates for letters to all sorts of multipliers had already been established. Responding to a question by G. Margos, he noted that the list can directly be edited online. 1 Minute 7b. Reports on feedback to messages received M. Göker reiterated that messages had already been sent to multipliers, and that more could be sent if the committee members provided the missing addresses (see Minute 7a). He also confirmed that Professor Leonard Leibovici, Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Microbiology and Infection, had invited CoMicProN to write a commentary on mitigating bacterial name changes. Minute 8. Brief reports on planned or submitted manuscripts M. Göker reported that the revised IJSEM paper presenting CoMiCProN and LoRN had not yet received any reviewer comments. The relatively lengthy IJSEM review process was discussed. It was noted that there had been other instances in which reviewers were not aware of how to review reports on decisions made by the ICSP or its subcommittees. A. Oren emphasised that this issue could be addressed at the next IJSEM Editorial Board meeting. The paper proposing Mycobacteriales subgenera was accepted for publication. The manuscript that proposed Borreliella as a subgenus was published. Regarding a paper in a medical journal presenting CoMiCProN and LoRN, see Minute 9. Minute 9. Brief reports concerning the involvement of other multipliers V. Collin and M. Göker reported that they had met with a colleague from BioMérieux. The next step is to clarify the technical and organisational aspects of obtaining LoRN from LPSN, after which another meeting will be arranged. Regarding contact with Bruker representatives, as E.R.B. Moore was not present at the meeting, this topic was postponed. M. Göker noted that contacting the NCBI taxonomy team also had to be postponed. Minute 10. Any other business No other business was reported. Matters Arising / Action points All committee members to assess whether they could take the lead concerning a 2nd paper on CoMicProN and LoRN, this time in a medical journal. All committee members to update and augment the CoMiCProN list of potential multipliers. S. Butler-Wu to continue to try to identify the contact person for risk group classification in the USA. S. Butler-Wu to follow up on her contacts with US Bruker representatives and provide information on those who would like to join the committee. V. Collin to liaise again with M. Göker concerning the possible usage of LoRN by BioMérieux. M. Göker to publish the minutes of the last meeting on Zenodo. M. Göker to update the list of CoMiCProN milestones. M. Göker to further assess the possible inclusion of plant pathogens in LoRN. E.R.B. Moore to continue trying to find the contact person for the Swedish risk group classification. 2 E.R.B. Moore to liaise with Bruker representatives concerning the work of CoMiCProN. J. Vázquez-Boland to continue to work with E.R.B. Moore on the details of CoMiCProN on the ICSP website. 3
