Share your Accepted Manuscripts A Rights Retention Strategy Explainer There are usually three options for open access: 1. Publishing in a full-OA journal, with or without article processing charges (APCs). These may be covered by your funder. 2. Publishing in a “hybrid” (partially OA) journal by paying APCs yourself or using our contracts with major publishers. 3. Publishing in a paywalled journal while still making your AAM available on our repository. This can be done immediately with the Rights Retention Strategy (RRS). When submitting an article to a paywalled journal, do not relinquish your rights as an author and inform the publisher that you intend to retain the right to share your AAM on a repository after publication in the journal. If your research is funded by the SNSF or another cOAlition S funder, use this template: Send your AAM to the Library. We will upload it to our repository under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) licence as required by the SNSF and other funders. If the original article is not published yet, it can be kept under embargo until its release date. Other researchers will get access the full-text through open access tools such as Unpaywall. This strategy was established by a coalition of funders within Plan S to achieve rapid transition to OA for funded research. The SNSF joined cOAlition S at the beginning of 2023. The principles of Plan S apply to all its grants awarded after January 1st, 2023.
