Students who are native speakers of English already know English grammar. They are aware of the sounds of words, the meanings of those words, and the different ways of joining words together to make meaningful sentences. However, while students may be fluent speakers of English, they need instructions to become effective writers. They need to learn how to transfer their knowledge of grammatical concepts from oral language to written language. Effective grammar instructions start with what students already know about grammar, and it assists them use this knowledge as they write. By connecting their knowledge of oral language to written language, teachers can explain abstract Results of National Scientific Research International Journal 2025 Volume 4| Issue 9 SJIF5.8, Researchbib 10.7 ISSN: 2181-3639 https://academicresearch.ru/index.php/inrnsr/index 23 grammatical concepts so that students can write and read with higher competence and confidence. Scholars like Myhill (2018) and Halliday (2014) promote a meaning-based approach to grammar that connects structural knowledge with the purposes and contexts of writing. In this perspective, grammar is essential for textual coherence, audience awareness, and rhetorical effectiveness. For instance, the ability to manipulate sentence structures, ensure subject-verb agreement, and use appropriate tense is pivotal in developing logical arguments, narrative flow, and stylistic clarity. Additionally, the connection between grammar and writing involves more than just linguistic form; it also includes cognitive processes. Writing involves planning, drafting, revising, and editing—each of which benefits from grammatical knowledge. Students who understand grammatical structures are better prepared to make intentional choices about sentence variety, voice, and cohesion. These choices, in turn, improve the readability and impact of their writing. The neglect of grammar in writing instruction also reflects a misunderstanding of its importance. As students revise and edit their work, teachers can offer grammar lessons that help students identify and fix issues in sentence structure and usage. For instance, if many students write sentences with misplaced modifiers, a teacher can give a quick lesson on this concept, using examples from student writing. The teacher can then have students edit their own and peers’ drafts to correct this common issue. Having integrated grammar rules into the revising and editing procedure allows students make immediate applications, thus enables them to see the appropriateness of grammar to their own writing. Because of writing’s complexity and its challenges for students, teachers should focus on the grammatical concepts that are essential for the clear communication of meaning. Rather than being challenged to teach all grammatical concepts to all students, teachers should prioritize and guide the grammatical component that most affect their students' Results of National Scientific Research International Journal 2025 Volume 4| Issue 9 SJIF5.8, Researchbib 10.7 ISSN: 2181-3639 https://academicresearch.ru/index.php/inrnsr/index 24 ability to write virtually. Teachers should also be sensitive to individual students' readiness to acquire and apply grammatical concepts. Sentence combining is a strategy used to connect short sentences into longer, more complex ones. As students engage in sentence-combining activities, they learn how to recognize sentence structures that change meaning and style. Practice in sentence combining gives writers systematic knowledge of different syntactic options, helping them to consider various choices both mentally and on paper, and select the best ones. Systematic practice can improve students' understanding of syntactic structures and enhance the quality of their sentences, especially when stylistic effects are discussed. Sentence-combining exercises can be either written or oral, structured or unstructured. Structured exercises guide students on how to create sentences, while unstructured exercises encourage more variation, but both require students to produce logical and meaningful sentences. Grammar choices shape writing style; sentence combining is an effective way for students to develop fluency and variety in their own writing. Students can explore sentence variety, length, parallelism, and other syntactic devices by comparing their sentences with those of other writers. They also learn how writers revise their work for style and effect. Teachers can create their own sentence-combining activities by using short sentences from student writing or other suitable sources. For example, teachers who notice many choppy sentences in students' writing can display these sentences on an overhead for all students to see. Then, teachers can ask different students to orally combine the short sentences in various ways. Engaging in oral and written sentence-combining activities helps students better understand how sentence structure, usage, and punctuation influence meaning. When used as a revising strategy, sentence-combining activities help students recognize short, choppy sentences in their own writing. This encourages them to combine ideas more smoothly and develop more sophisticated sentences. As Results of National Scientific Research International Journal 2025 Volume 4| Issue 9 SJIF5.8, Researchbib 10.7 ISSN: 2181-3639 https://academicresearch.ru/index.php/inrnsr/index 25 students create more complex sentences from shorter ones, they learn how the arrangement of phrases and clauses, for example, influences meaning and affects their readers. Grammar instruction is most naturally incorporated during the revising, editing, and proofreading stages of the writing process. After students have completed their first drafts and are confident with their ideas and organization, teachers can use various strategies to help students see grammatical concepts as language choices that enhance their writing goals. Students will gradually become more open to revising, editing, and proofreading their work. In writing conferences, for example, teachers can assist students in revising for effective word choices. As the teacher and student discuss the intended audience, the teacher can ask how formal or informal the writing should be and remind students that people typically adjust their level of formality depending on their listeners and context. The teacher can then guide the student to identify words in their writing that influence the level of formality. To help students revise dull, monotonous sentences, teachers might ask students to read their writing aloud to partners. This strategy helps both the partner and the writer recognize when, for example, too many sentences start with "It is" or "There are." Both can discuss ways to vary the sentence beginnings. After the writer revises the sentences, the partner can read them aloud again. Then both can discuss how effective the revisions are. Teachers can assist students in changing from passive voice to active voice by giving a mini-lesson. During editing groups, students can swap papers and look for verbs that often indicate passive voice, such as was and been. When students find these verbs, they read the sentence aloud to their partners and discuss whether the voice is passive and if using an active voice verb could make the sentence stronger. The student writer can then choose which voice is most effective and suitable for the writing purpose and audience. Results of National Scientific Research International Journal 2025 Volume 4| Issue 9 SJIF5.8, Researchbib 10.7 ISSN: 2181-3639 https://academicresearch.ru/index.php/inrnsr/index 26 Teachers can help students become better proofreaders through peer editing groups. Based on their students' writing skills, teachers can assign different proofreading tasks to specific members in each group. For example, one person might check for spelling errors, another for agreement mistakes, another for fragments and run-ons, and another for punctuation errors. As students improve their proofreading skills, they take on more areas to review. Working with classmates in peer editing groups helps students improve their grammar skills and understand the importance of grammar as a tool for clear communication. Recent studies in language teaching show that grammar learning is most effective when integrated into meaningful writing tasks rather than taught separately (Graham & Perin, 2007). This combined approach treats grammar not just as a set of rules but as a practical tool for producing clear, coherent, and stylistically polished texts. As teachers combine grammar instruction with writing teaching, they should use grammar terms that make sense to students. By naturally including grammar terms in the processes of revising, editing, and proofreading, teachers help students understand and intentionally use grammar in their own writing. Strategies like writing conferences, partnership writing, grammar mini-lessons, and peer response groups are effective ways to incorporate grammar into writing lessons. Teaching grammar as more than isolated forms, educators are encouraged to present it as a toolkit for improving clarity, coherence, and stylistic nuance in writing. When students understand grammar this way, they become better at making conscious decisions about sentence structure, tense, and voice that match their communication goals. This empowers them to write more effectively across different genres and audiences. Additionally, grammar plays an essential role in creating textual coherence. Elements like conjunctions, prepositions, and pronouns act as cohesive devices that connect ideas and guide readers through the logical flow of a text. Using these elements correctly can distinguish well-structured writing from Results of National Scientific Research International Journal 2025 Volume 4| Issue 9 SJIF5.8, Researchbib 10.7 ISSN: 2181-3639 https://academicresearch.ru/index.php/inrnsr/index 27 fragmented or disjointed prose. For example, transition words show relationships between ideas, while reference words maintain continuity and reduce redundancy. Modern scholars also highlight the importance of grammatical awareness in developing metacognitive skills in learners. Grammatical choices are not just technical; they involve awareness of tone, formality, and audience. When students learn to analyze and manipulate grammar with these aspects in mind, they improve their ability to revise and refine their writing. In summary, grammar should be seen as more than just a set of rules to follow. It is a flexible and powerful tool for creating meaning, shaping conversation, and achieving rhetorical clarity. This new viewpoint promotes a more detailed and practical approach to grammar. Literature: 1. Graham, S., & Perin, D. (2007).
