Original article 1194 THE ROLE OF BLENDED LEARNING IN ENHANCING STUDENTS’ SPEAKING AND LISTENING SKILLS Nasimova Ruxshona Tuymurod qizi Student at the Tourism Faculty of Chirchik State Pedagogical University Scientific adviscor: Axmedov Hasan Uzairovich Annotation: This paper explores the role of blended learning in enhancing students’ speaking and listening skills in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms. Blended learning, which combines face-to-face instruction with digital technologies, creates a more flexible and interactive learning environment. The study emphasizes that integrating online tools such as video conferencing, interactive listening platforms, and collaborative speaking activities increases learners’ engagement, motivation, and communication competence. Furthermore, it discusses the effectiveness of blended approaches in improving real-time communication, pronunciation accuracy, and listening comprehension. The research concludes that blended learning can significantly contribute to developing students’ oral proficiency and listening fluency if applied with proper pedagogical design. Keywords: Blended learning, speaking skills, listening skills, EFL, digital tools, communication competence, interactive learning INTRODUCTION In recent years, the integration of technology into education has transformed the way students learn and teachers instruct. Among these transformations, blended learning—the combination of traditional face-to-face teaching and online digital instruction—has gained significant attention in English language education. This approach provides learners with both the personal interaction of classroom learning and the flexibility of online resources, creating a dynamic and student-centered learning environment. Developing speaking and listening skills remains one of the most challenging aspects of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction, particularly in non-English-speaking contexts such as Uzbekistan. Traditional classroom methods often limit students’ opportunities to communicate in authentic contexts, while online platforms alone may lack the guidance and feedback that teachers provide. Therefore, blended learning has emerged as a solution that bridges these gaps by combining the strengths of both modes of instruction. Through this integration, students can practice speaking with peers via digital tools, engage in authentic listening experiences, and receive immediate feedback from instructors. Blended learning also supports differentiated instruction, allowing students to learn at their own pace and revisit materials as needed. It promotes learner autonomy and self-regulated learning, two essential skills in the 21st-century classroom. Moreover, digital technologies—such as Zoom, Google Meet, Edmodo, and language learning applications—offer diverse opportunities for interactive communication. These platforms provide authentic exposure to English through videos, podcasts, and virtual discussions, helping students enhance both their listening comprehension and speaking fluency.

Original article 1195 Researchers have emphasized that blended learning not only increases students’ language proficiency but also improves their motivation and engagement in language learning. By participating in online discussions, group projects, and multimedia activities, learners become active participants in their own learning process. Furthermore, the use of technology enables teachers to design more innovative, interactive, and personalized lessons that cater to students’ individual needs and learning styles. Therefore, this paper explores the role of blended learning in enhancing students’ speaking and listening skills in EFL contexts. It aims to identify how integrating digital tools with traditional classroom instruction can improve learners’ communicative competence, motivation, and confidence. The study also discusses the pedagogical benefits and challenges of implementing blended learning strategies in English language teaching, with a particular focus on practical implications for teachers in Uzbek universities. Blended learning has become one of the most effective approaches in modern English language teaching, especially for developing speaking and listening skills. It integrates the strengths of both face-to-face and online learning environments to create a more flexible and interactive educational experience. According to Garrison and Vaughan, blended learning offers “a thoughtful fusion of classroom teaching and online experiences” that promotes deeper engagement and better communication outcomes for learners [1]. One of the primary advantages of blended learning in EFL classrooms is its ability to increase student interaction. In traditional classrooms, students often hesitate to speak due to anxiety or lack of confidence. However, online platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, or Edmodo provide a less intimidating environment for learners to practice their speaking skills, which helps reduce anxiety and promote authentic communication [2]. These tools also enable students to participate in group discussions, role plays, and oral presentations, allowing them to develop fluency and accuracy through consistent practice. In terms of listening skills, digital platforms offer abundant opportunities for exposure to authentic language materials. Learners can access podcasts, YouTube videos, and recorded lectures that reflect real-life communication. According to a study by Sun and Qian, listening activities integrated through blended learning significantly improve learners’ comprehension and pronunciation accuracy by allowing repeated and flexible practice [3]. Moreover, teachers can supplement these activities with interactive listening tasks and comprehension quizzes using tools like Kahoot and Quizizz, which make learning engaging and fun. Another crucial aspect of blended learning is its contribution to learner autonomy. By giving students access to online materials, they can control their learning pace and review lessons as needed. This self-regulated learning process enhances motivation and responsibility, which are key components in language development [4]. Furthermore, blended learning provides continuous feedback through automated systems or teacher-guided comments. Tools such as Grammarly and online discussion boards enable instant correction and reflection, improving the quality of students’ oral and written outputs [5].Blended learning also supports collaborative learning, as students engage in pair or group work through virtual platforms. According to Hrastinski, online collaboration increases learners’ sense of community and helps them exchange ideas more confidently, which strengthens their communicative competence [6]. The flexibility of the blended model also allows teachers to personalize instruction based on learners’ needs and proficiency levels. Teachers can use face-to-face sessions for pronunciation and fluency practice, while online components can focus on comprehension, vocabulary development, and reflective feedback [7]. However, despite its numerous benefits, blended learning presents certain challenges. Some students may struggle with technological literacy or lack access to stable internet connections,

Teachers, on the other hand, need adequate training to effectively design blended courses and integrate technology meaningfully into their lessons [8]. These challenges highlight the need for institutional support and professional development programs to ensure the success of blended language education. Overall, research indicates that the integration of blended learning in EFL classrooms enhances both the cognitive and affective dimensions of language learning. It not only strengthens speaking and listening proficiency but also fosters motivation, engagement, and learner independence. Thus, when properly implemented, blended learning can serve as a powerful pedagogical strategy to prepare students for real-world communication in the digital age. CONCLUSION In conclusion, the implementation of blended learning strategies in English language education has proven to be a powerful approach for developing students’ speaking and listening skills. By combining traditional classroom interaction with digital tools and online resources, learners gain greater flexibility, access to authentic materials, and opportunities for continuous practice. The blended model not only enhances communication competence but also fosters learner autonomy, motivation, and confidence in using English for real-life purposes. The integration of technology-based platforms such as Zoom, Edmodo, and various interactive applications allows students to engage in meaningful listening and speaking activities both inside and outside the classroom. Furthermore, this approach supports teachers in personalizing instruction and providing instant feedback, which leads to improved pronunciation, fluency, and comprehension. However, the success of blended learning largely depends on effective pedagogical design, teachers’ digital competence, and the availability of technological infrastructure. Institutions must ensure that both educators and learners are equipped with the necessary digital literacy skills to fully benefit from this model. Overall, blended learning offers a promising and sustainable path for improving communicative skills in EFL classrooms. When carefully integrated into language instruction, it can transform the traditional classroom into an interactive, student-centered environment that prepares learners for communication in the digital era.
