ASSURED + DALIA. Scaling up the Qualification of Researchers for Trusted Research Environments (TREs)
Abstract
The poster presents DALIA (DAta LIteracy Alliance) and ASSURED as complementary initiatives to strengthen data literacy and secure data access across the NFDI. DALIA provides a framework for standardised, certifiable training, while ASSURED develops tailored learning paths for handling sensitive data. Together, they promote consistent qualifications and enable researchers to work safely and effectively across diverse data environments.

The DALIA platform will help scientists across the NFDI find curated training to become Safe People. For projects creating training, like ASSURED, integrating modules in the DALIA platform is straightforward and easy. Safe Projects Is the project statistically valid, lawful and ethical? Safe People Do researchers have the skills to work with the data safely? Safe Data Safe Setting Is the working environment secure? Safe Outputs Is the output disclosive? The 5 Safes ASSURED ●Developing a training and accreditation system for researcher and professionals who are handling sensitive data. ●This focuses on how Safe Outputs can be produced from sensitive data. ●Currently undergoing user testing. ●Provides a simple framework for managing access to data that is proportionate to the risk. ●First developed by staff at the Office for National Statistics in the UK and now used by Trusted Research Environments worldwide. ●DALIA and ASSURED are curating and developing training materials to help give researchers the skills to be Safe People. ●ASSURED was considered to be a good fit for the DALIA Platform. ●Within ASSURED, metadata about each module was being created. ●This significantly overlapped with the schema used by DALIA making adaptation easy. DALIA Platform In its initial phase, the DALIA platform offers Basic and Advanced options, with intuitive filters for faster, more precise results: ●Target Audience – refine results based on the intended user group ●Media Type – select from various content formats ●Learning Resource Type – focus on specific kinds of educational materials This blend of search modes and smart filters delivers faster, more targeted, user-friendly results.
