How to implement Open Science for a national research community ?
Abstract
Open Science is a complex practice that uses technological advances to open research data, methods and scientific articles. Its aim is to share science with as many people as possible. Its recent introduction has transformed research practices in France and seen the emergence of new tools and new professions. The French context for opening up research data is recent. The last ten years have seen the publication of government recommendations to make Open Science the default practice.The biodiversity and ecology community then found itself without the IT tools to comply with this request. It was on the basis of this observation that the InDoRES project (Inventory of research data on environment and societies) was born in 2017. Its aim is to offer simple shared tools and, above all, to have a dedicated team to help the research community open up its data. A catalogue of metadata was first set up to describe projects and data produced, using an interoperable standard. Then, at the end of 2022, a data repository dedicated to ecology and biodiversity data had been opened.The response to open science does not simply consist of developing IT tools, but also a human dimension with knowledge of the disciplines and a scientific background, so that personalised responses can be given.
