ID Q5: Feel free to write a review about this class. Q6: What did you think about this course? Please share your opinions about good and aspects to be improved 1This course provided a comprehensive overview of how artificial intelligence (AI) is applied across various domains and the safety considerations essential to its implementation. While I achieved a theoretical understanding, I found it challenging to bridge this knowledge to fully practical solutions within my specific research area. This gap highlighted the need for deeper technical expertise in certain subfields of AI. This course served as an excellent foundation for understanding the dual nature of AI’s opportunities and risks. Professor’s engaging teaching style and real-world examples made complex concepts accessible. For future iterations of this course, I would suggest adding hands-on projects to reinforce theoretical concepts with practical applications. The course offered a well-rounded combination of theoretical concepts and real-world examples. This helped me understand not just how AI works but also its broader implications in society. Inviting guest speakers from industries actively working on AI safety could add practical perspectives and highlight career opportunities in the field. 2I have leaned about basic of AI, safety and ethics of AI. We have presented many presentations and discussions. There 3 guest speakers in this course. I personally feel that if there is less than that and more lectures for case study. 3I learnt a lot about how AI is more than just some application we use. We need to be aware of the safety risks that comes with developing artificial intelligent applications. Through this class, we learnt about those, and what possible solutions that can be implemented. This class was really nice, and the materials were delivered clearly. 4Very interesting class explaining the ovierview and vast problematics regarding AI. From the simple basis to theoretical modeling, the possible risks & concerns and interesting guest lectures everything was greatly covered. This class motivated me to delve further into this matter as it certainly will be playing a huge role in our society for years to come. Very good and interesting class, the professor made sure to explain every matter very understandably. One thing which could be helpful to further understand AI’s impact and functionality is to show how companies can use these models and practically implement them in ”real world” scenarios. Besides that everything was well organized and discussed. 5blank... In my opinion could be more technical with actual code examples on how to implement different types of AI/ML. The discussions and were a bit superficial for me. 6The explanations of the different AI models were a bit to fast for me, but the guest lectures were very interesting! blank... 7blank... It is structured with interesting topics, but it might be better if the duration were for a whole semester instead of two periods on one day. And if python were a requisite, one could also use or create Jupyter Notebooks with experiments that then the students could run as a homework and report about results or do changes, for a more practical learning. I personally like to learn with examples and by doing, and there are some good resources that could improve understanding, like: For NN and concepts like learning rate, activation (and why linear doesnt always work) and regularization, Tensorflow has a very good interactive website: https://playground.tensorflow.org. For convolutional neural networks there is the great CNN Explainer: https://poloclub.github.io/cnn-explainer. The PoloClub website also has many other interactive visualizations that could be interesting to use: https://poloclub.github.io/. I also really liked that there were invited guests, the topics presented by them were very interesting 8Honestly, in comparison to other classes this class had the most learning effect. It was very interesting and useful. I really liked the structure of the class. You made it possible that someone with no background could understand the topic. 9I liked that we were able to get a nice overview. blank... 10 Classes are very enjoyable because there are outside teachers who can be online and offline which gives new colors to learning, the teacher is very deep in the material so that we can get insight from this lesson, especially the assignments given in groups so that it is easier to divide tasks Good courses 11 I really like AI so I found it very interesting and well taught. Very good 12 I will do my best (in Japanese). I will do my best (in Japanese). Table 3: Anonymized free-text responses to Q5 and Q6 (verbatim where possible; identifying details removed).
