Wipawin, Namtip

Abstract

This presentation, DataCite Thailand 2025, was prepared by Professor Dr. Namtip Wipawin (Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University). It outlines the engagement of the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) with DataCite and the development of DOI services in Thailand. The presentation covers the reasons for joining DataCite, the use of DataCite services, challenges addressed through persistent identifiers, and the progress of DOI implementation in the Thai research community. It highlights NRCT’s transition from a direct member to a consortium lead in 2025, ongoing collaborations with DataCite, and national initiatives to strengthen DOI infrastructure, policy, and training. A recording of the presentation is available on the DataCite YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYJroeoM8kE&t=340s

In 2024, NRCT supported the Digital Object Identifier Management and Service Standard Upgrade project. The recommendations include developing a data citation policy and culture, as well as establishing a National DOI service center in Thailand to supply DOIs to digital repositories and journal articles through the DataCite Consortium and Crossref Sponsor Program for Thai journals. https://www.doi.org/the-identifier/resources/handbook .
