Abstract

This dataset contains raw and processed measurements from a cadaveric proof-of-concept study on a novel multifunctional patient-specific guide (PSG) for distal femoral tumour resection and reconstruction. The study was conducted on Thiel-embalmed male cadaveric distal femurs. The dataset includes variables such as resection height deviation (mm), coronal and sagittal alignment errors (°), in-plane rotational errors of the endoprosthesis (°), binary height deviation thresholds, and specimen identifiers. Data are provided in CSV format, with variable descriptions and units available in an accompanying Excel file. This dataset accompanies the manuscript “Enhancing Surgical Precision in Limb-Salvage Surgery: Proof-of-Concept Study of a Multifunctional Patient-Specific Guide”, submitted to The British Journal of Radiology (BJR). The dataset is released under the CC BY 4.0 licence, allowing sharing and adaptation with proper attribution.

Dataset Enhancing Precision in Limb-Salvage Surgery: Proof-of-Concept Study of a Multifunctional Patient-Specific Guide (Revised after peer review) 1) Dataset title Data and figures for: Enhancing Surgical Precision in Limb-Salvage Surgery: Proof-of-Concept Study of a Multifunctional Patient-Specific Guide ! revised version after peer review (BJR-2025-0485). 2) Authors & affiliations • Milan Roelens — Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Ghent University, Ghent, Belgium • Sam Dhaene — Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Ghent University, Ghent, Belgium • Ing. Léonard Geudin — Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Ghent University, Ghent, Belgium • Prof. Dr. Gwen Sys — Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Ghent University Hospital, Ghent, Belgium Corresponding author: [email protected] 3) Summary This dataset contains the raw measurements, the processed (signed) errors, and the final figures supporting a proof-of-concept study on a multifunctional patient-specific guide (PSG) for distal femoral resection and endoprosthetic alignment in a cadaveric model. Ten Thiel-fixed femora were virtually planned, treated with PSGguided osteotomy and prosthetic alignment, and evaluated using postoperative CT. The dataset has been updated to fully reflect the peer-review comments and matches the revised manuscript tables and figures one-to-one. 4) Changes versus Version 1 (change log) • Errors are reported as signed values (measured − planned), not as absolute values. • IQR and other summary statistics are computed on signed errors. • Rounding harmonized: linear (mm) 1 decimal; angular (°) 1 decimal. • Table 1 and all derived statistics recalculated accordingly. • Figures updated: revised boxplots and radar plot generated from the recalculated dataset (Figure_4_Revised.png, Figure_5_revised.png). • Unchanged figures reinstated: Figures 1–3 are identical to Version 1 and included again for completeness. 5) Folder structure & contents RawData POC_Data_original_file.xlsx Original master file with all unrounded measurements per specimen. Representative columns: Rotation_error_deg, Coronal_error_deg, Sagittal_error_deg, Resection_height_error_mm, Position_osteotomy_%. For each variable: mean, SD, median, IQR (Q1–Q3), min, max. Figures • Revised • Figure 4_Revised.png — Boxplots of signed deviations for angular variables (rotation, coronal, sagittal; °) and linear variable (resection height; mm). • Figure 5_Revised.png — Radar plot summarizing signed deviations per variable. • Table 1_Revised — Quantitative error metrics for the multifunctional patient-specific guide (PSG) Documentation • README.pdf (this file) 6) File formats • XLSX: sheets per specimen and descriptive calculations. • PNG: publication-quality figures. 7) Variables & units (core) • Rotational error (°), Coronal error (°), Sagittal error (°) — signed errors (measured − planned). • Resection height error (mm) — signed error (measured − planned). Rounding: mm and ° reported with one decimal in tables/figures. 8) Methods snapshot Cadaveric proof-of-concept; n=10 Thiel-fixed distal femora; virtual pre-operative planning; PSG-guided osteotomy and prosthetic alignment; CT-based evaluation of alignment and resection deviations. 9) Software • CT acquisition: 120 kVp, 200 mAs, 0.875 × 0.875 mm in-plane, 0.3 mm slices. • Segmentation/planning: 3D Slicer v5.2.2. • Statistical analysis & figures: R v4.4.1 10) License CC BY 4.0 — free use and adaptation with appropriate attribution. 11) Ethics & legal Donor tissue provided via Ghent University anatomical donation program, in accordance with institutional/ethical guidelines.
