Integrating the domain vocabulary Voc4Cat into the repository Repo4Cat via Skosmos

Linke, David

Abstract

We report on deploying Skosmos 3 to integrate Voc4Cat, a community-curated SKOS vocabulary for catalysis, into the NFDI4Cat data repository Repo4Cat. The vocabulary comprises approximately 500 concepts across catalysis subdomains, maintained through a GitHub-based CI/CD workflow using Excel/xlsx as the contribution interface. Our Skosmos 3 instance, hosted at ZB MED in a Kubernetes environment, features automated ingestion from the Voc4Cat GitHub repository and API-based integration with Dataverse for metadata and keyword input. We skipped Skosmos 2 entirely and encountered only minor issues with Skosmos 3 during deployment. This implementation demonstrates how Skosmos supports domain-specific research data infrastructures by providing both machine-readable vocabulary access for software services and an easy-to-navigate interface for human users to explore concept hierarchies and collections.
