e icien ene gy supply, digi aliza ion plays a c ucial ole in op imizing g id managemen , o ecas ing ene gy

The global ene gy landscape is unde going a ans o ma ion, shi ing away om a hea y eliance on ossil uels
owa d cleane and mo e sus ainable ene gy sou ces (In e na ional Renewable Ene gy Agency – IRENA, 2023).
This ansi ion is d i en by a combina ion o ac o s, including he deple ion o ossil uel ese es, g owing
en i onmen al conce ns, and he poli ical impe a i e d i en by he wo ldwide o ganiza ions o mi iga e clima e
change (Dwi edi e al., 2022; Wang & Azam, 2024). Mo occo has posi ioned i sel as a leade in his global
ansi ion, wi h ambi ious a ge s o enewable ene gy in eg a ion (F agkos, 2023). The coun y's abundan
sola and wind esou ces, coupled wi h suppo i e go e nmen policies, ha e c ea ed a a o able en i onmen
o he de elopmen o he enewable ene gy sec o (Kousksou e al., 2015; F agkos, 2023).
Digi aliza ion, on he o he hand, is he in eg a ion o digi al echnologies ac oss all aspec s o socie y and he
economy. This includes he adop ion, applica ion, and u iliza ion o digi al ools, leading o new business
models, economic ans o ma ion, and a undamen ally al e ed socioeconomic en i onmen (G adillas &
Thomas, 2023). Fo o ganiza ions, digi aliza ion signi ies a mode niza ion. I in ol es in using digi al ools
ac oss all o ganiza ional unc ions, om managemen o cus ome se ice. I needs o be emphasized ha
digi aliza ion s ands as he mos signi ican ec o o inno a ion impac ing science, echnology, business, and
go e nance (OECD, 2020). I d i es he c ea ion o new business models and os e s digi al engagemen s. By
e ec i ely le e aging digi aliza ion’s po en ial, ad ancemen s in a ious men ioned ields can be accele a ed.
This holds he po en ial o imp o e li ing s anda ds, enhance en i onmen al p o ec ion, and in o m
policymaking, ul ima ely in luencing economic landscapes.
As digi al echnologies pe mea e a ious ields, he enewable ene gy sec o , in pa icula , s ands o bene i
immensely om digi aliza ion. The In e na ional Ene gy Agency (IEA) ecognizes digi al echnologies as a
game-change o he enewable ene gy sec o (Sung e al., 2021). They emphasize how hese echnologies can
unlock se e al key oppo uni ies. Fo ins ance, digi al ools can help in eg a e mo e enewable ene gy sou ces
in o he g id by managing hei a iabili y and ensu ing sys em eliabili y. Addi ionally, digi aliza ion can
op imize ene gy consump ion in buildings and indus ies, leading o signi ican e iciency gains. The IEA
highligh s ha hese ad ancemen s, coupled wi h da a analysis and sma g ids, can pa e he way o a mo e
sus ainable and e icien ene gy u u e.
Digi aliza ion in he ene gy sec o goes beyond simply boos ing eliabili y and e iciency. I also empowe s

The inqui y will now examine some o he key echnologies used in he digi aliza ion o he ene gy sec o .
Acco ding o he li e a u e (Va ela, 2017; Asi , 2022; Id ies e al., 2022; Juszczyk & Shahzad, 2022; Mo lagh
e al., 2020; Pandey e al., 2023; Pugna e al., 2022; Riz i, 2019; Singh e al., 2022), he ene gy sec o le e ages
a ange o echnologies such as a i icial in elligence (AI), big da a, in e ne o hings (IoT), cloud compu ing,
blockchain o accele a e he sus ainable ene gy ansi ion h ough digi al ans o ma ion (Table 1).
A i icial in elligence (AI) and i s sub ield machine-lea ning (ML) a e e olu ionizing enewable ene gy by
modeling, moni o ing, and o ecas ing bo h p oduc ion and consump ion (Asi , 2022). This os e s a mo e
sus ainable ansi ion h ough op imized esou ce alloca ion and imp o ed g id managemen . Big da a and ools
in da a analy ics enable he analysis o massi e da ase s om sma me e s, senso s, and wea he pa e ns (Pugna
e al., 2022). This analysis leads o deepe insigh s in o enewable ene gy p oduc ion and consump ion. By

ope a ions, enabling a mo e e icien and da a-d i en app oach (Pandey e al., 2023). The cloud's scalabili y
allows o s eamlined da a analysis and esou ce alloca ion, while also acili a ing emo e moni o ing o
enewable ene gy sys ems. Addi ionally, he cloud's as s o age capaci y unlocks he po en ial o big da a,
allowing companies o ex ac aluable insigh s o be e decision-making. Finally, blockchain, ini ially
popula ized o i s secu e ansac ions in he inancial sec o , is now gaining ac ion in he enewable ene gy
sec o . This echnology acili a es secu e pee - o-pee ene gy ading and anspa en eco d-keeping o
enewable ene gy ce i ica es (Id ies e al., 2022; Juszczyk & Shahzad, 2022). By doing so, blockchain pa es
he way o inno a i e digi al business models and se ices wi hin he ene gy landscape.
While no s ic ly classi ied as “digi al echnologies” hemsel es, obo ics and au oma ion solu ions also play a
c ucial ole in he digi aliza ion o he enewable ene gy sec o (Riz i, 2019; Simion e al., 2023). They a e
being s a egically implemen ed, pa icula ly in a eas like ene gy dis ibu ion au oma ion and ield ope a ions.

Digi aliza ion is widely ecognized as a key ca alys o accele a ing he ene gy sec o 's ansi ion o a mo e
sus ainable model (E soy e al., 2022). As p e iously discussed, a ious digi al echnologies, such as AI, big
da a, IoT, cloud compu ing, and blockchain, a e ans o ming how ene gy is p oduced, managed, and consumed
wi hin he enewable ene gy sec o . To e ec i ely le e age hese digi al ad ancemen s, a comp ehensi e
unde s anding o he cu en s a e o he digi aliza ion o Mo occo's enewable ene gy sec o is c ucial. This
unde s anding should encompass bo h he challenges and oppo uni ies ha exis . The in es iga ion necessi a es
a s uc u ed app oach o da a collec ion and analysis. A heo e ical amewo k will be employed o achie e his.

ecommended by Machado e al. (2024), can o e a iche unde s anding o he complex phenomena in ol ed
in he ans o ma ion s udied. These phenomena encompass mul iple goals, di e se s akeholde s, he challenges
o o ganiza ional change, and echnology in eg a ion – all c ucial aspec s o success ul digi aliza ion in he
enewable ene gy sec o . Ul ima ely, by in eg a ing he PPT and TBL amewo ks, his s udy can mo e
e ec i ely in es iga e he po en ial bene i s and challenges associa ed wi h digi alizing Mo occo's enewable
ene gy sec o .
The People, P ocess, Technology (PPT) amewo k, o igina ing in he 1960s om he ield o business
managemen , o e s a p ac ical lens o analyzing change ini ia i es (Simon, 2021). I emphasizes he need o
a well-balanced in e play be ween h ee key elemen s: People, P ocess, and Technology. The “People” aspec
ocuses on he skills, knowledge, and leade ship equi ed o implemen change e ec i ely. “P ocess” examines
he exis ing wo k lows and ensu es hei compa ibili y wi h new echnologies. Finally, “Technology” conside s
he selec ion and implemen a ion o app op ia e digi al ools o suppo he ans o ma ion.
In he con ex o Mo occo's enewable ene gy sec o digi aliza ion, he PPT amewo k can se e as a aluable
ool o iden i ying po en ial gaps and a eas o imp o emen . By analyzing he capabili ies o he wo k o ce,
he e iciency o cu en p ocesses, and he sui abili y o planned echnological solu ions, he PPT amewo k
can guide he de elopmen o a comp ehensi e digi aliza ion s a egy. This ensu es ha Mo occo le e ages he
ull po en ial o digi al echnologies o achie e i s enewable ene gy goals.
The T iple Bo om Line (TBL) amewo k, encompassing Economic, En i onmen al, and Social dimensions –
also some imes e e ed o as 3Ps o Sus ainabili y (People, Plane , P o i ) – eme ged in he mid-1990s as a
esponse o he g owing emphasis on co po a e social esponsibili y. While i s exac o igin can be aced back
o he wo k o a ious hough leade s and publica ions, John Elking on (Elking on, 1998) is widely c edi ed
wi h popula izing he concep . The TBL amewo k is commonly used o assess he social, en i onmen al, and
inancial impac s o an o ganiza ion’s ac i i ies. The “Economic” dimension ocuses on inancial pe o mance

he phenomenon being s udied in dep h, and o employ mul iple sou ces o e idence, makes case s udy design
a use ul ool o desc ip i e s udies whe e he ocus is on speci ic si ua ion o con ex (Rose e al., 2024). A
desc ip i e case s udy is a case s udy whose pu pose is o desc ibe a phenomenon ( he “case”) in i s eal-wo ld
con ex (Yin, 2018). The “case” may be an indi idual, o i can be some e en o en i y o he han a single
indi idual, and i can include a a ie y o opics, such as small g oups, communi ies, decisions, p og ams,
o ganiza ional change, e c. The app op ia e case migh be a coun y’s economy, an indus y in he wo ld
ma ke place, an economic policy, o he ade o capi al low be ween coun ies (Yin, 2018). Thus, he uni o
