Abstract

This presentation was delivered at the FAIR-IMPACT co-located interoperability workshop at EOSC Winter School on 20 January 2025. The co-located workshop was divided into three parts: the Past, the Present, and the Future. The two presentations in the first part (The Past) set the context for the EOSC interoperability challenges as well as summarized prior workshop discussions on the topic. The second part (The Present) consisted of two presentations and a series of lightning talks all focused on a range of existing or potential interoperability solutions. Finally, the workshop concluded with a discussion of recommendations and next steps (The Future). This presentation was delivered as a lighting talk in the second part of the workshop. The presentation highlighted interoperability solutions developed and delivered in the Research Data Alliance with the support of the RDA TIGER project. RDA Europe, RDA TIGER and EOSC Liise Lehtsalu, Senior Science Officer, RDA Europe The Research Data Alliance (RDA) is a communitydriven initiative that builds social and technical bridges for researchers and innovators to openly share and re-use data across technologies, disciplines, and countries to address the grand challenges of society. RDA Europe is the European office of the RDA, supporting the regional communities, advocating for their unique and collective interests in the European data landscape, and facilitating the connection between national, European and global initiatives. RDA Recommendation and Outputs provide practical solutions to global FAIR data challenges. Argos adopted the RDA DMP Common Standard to align its practices with the global research data community and to maximise information exchange between other DMP tool providers. SURF in the Netherlands used RDA GORC International Model to structure discussions with internal stakeholders as well as to facilitate interactions with external partners and stakeholders about e.g. national EOSC node. RDA TIGER project links RDA initiatives to European initiatives: Develop RDA Working Groups’ (WGs’) links with European and global initiatives Support the international engagement and alignment of policies, technologies, methodologies, practices and other outputs relating to EOSC and European Open Science developments more generally. RDA WGs benefitting from RDA TIGER selected based on their EOSC relevance EOSC Multi-Annual Roadmap (European-level) Priorities 2025 – RDA TIGER O2: Continue to invest in the creation, adoption and governance of community-based metadata and data standards to support the discovery, interoperability and reuse of research data and software. O2: Continue to develop and maintain open interfaces, alignments, crosswalks, and APIs that enable interoperability and foster adoption of EOSC. The EOSC Interoperability Framework should facilitate the automated composition of EOSC data and services. O3: Enhance the federation model of EOSC by defining a harmonised operational and legal framework to facilitate the sharing and the access of data and services across European countries.
