Hands-on object-handling in difference together "Do you see what I see?" is a creative method where objects guide intra-actions. The method can be applied in research, teaching, and science communication. The purpose is to learn from each other and create new ideas, knowledge, and evidence through interaction and collaboration, and across different research fields, age, gender, background, and ways of knowing. Materials for 4 groups of 5 people and 1 facilitator per group •20 pairs of gloves •4 objects to be passed around on a tray •4 notepads and 4 pens •Large screen for a short presentation 1. Plenary: Introduction (15 min) Welcome and introduction to the theme. Explain of the tasks and situate goals of the workshop to place, time, and participants. Divide into groups. Four rules 1. If you recognise the object, don’t say what it is. 2. Allow room for creative interpretations. 3. Use simple words and avoid technical jargon. 4. It’s not about interpreting/knowing something about the object but about gathering creative ideas. 2. Groupwork: Object handling (approx. 20 min) Each participant gets time to examine the object. The object is sent around three times. The facilitator notes first impressions. Round 1: First impressions and observation (5 minutes) What do you see? Focus on colour, shape, material – in one word. Summary of Round 1: Close your eyes. The facilitator reads aloud what participants have said and asks if anything is missing. Round 2: Second impressions and description of materiality (5 minutes) What sparks your curiosity and attention? What are you wondering about? – In one sentence. Summary of Round 2: The facilitator reads aloud how the group describes the object. Round 3: Explore new perspectives and creative interpretations of meaning or function (10 minutes) What do you think the object was used for or represents? What do you think the person/people who created the object considered regarding material and design? How could this object become relevant for your research? 3. Plenary: Presentation (20 min) The facilitator presents the objects and thoughts and interactions from the groupwork (4 x 5 minutes). How did your group describe the object? What did the group particularly notice? What significance does the object have in research? What research questions remain unanswered? Gjenstandsverksted for tverrfaglig dialog ‘Ser du hva jeg ser?’ er en kreative metode der objekter styrer intra-aksjoner. Metoden kan brukes i forskning, undervisning og formidling. Formålet er å lære av hverandre og skape nye ideer, kunnskap og bevis gjennom interakskjon, i samarbeid og på tvers av ulike forskningsfelt, alder, kjønn, bakgrunn og måter å vite på. Material for 4 grupper á 5 personer og én fasilitatpr per bord •20 par handsker •4 objekter som sendes rundt på et pyte •4 notatblokk og 4 penn •stor skjerm for presentasjon 1. Plenum: Introduksjon (ca. 15 minutter) Velkommen og introduksjon av temaet. Forklaring av oppgavene og situere målene for workshopen til sted, tid og deltakerne. Deling i grupper. Fire regler •Hvis du vet hva det er, ikke sier det. •Gi rom for kreative tolkninger. •Bruk enkle ord, ingen fagspråk. •Det handler ikke om å tolke/kunne noe om objektene, men å samle kreative ideer. 2. Gruppearbeid: Object-handling (ca. 20 min) Hver deltaker får tid å se på objektet. Fasilitator noterer første inttrykk. Objektet sendes rundt 3 ganger. Runde 1: Førsteinntrykk (5 min) Hva ser du? Fokussere på farge, form, material. –I ett ord. Oppsummering Runde 1 Lykk øyne. Fasilitator leser opp hva deltakerne har sagt og spør om noe mangler? Runde 2: Andre observasjoner og beskrivelse av materialitet (5 min) Hva vekker din nysgjerrighet og oppmerksomhet? Hva lurer du på? – I én setning. Oppsummering Runde 2 Fasilitator leser opp hvordan denne gruppen beskriver objektet. Runde 3: Utforsk nye perspektiver og kreativ tolkninger om betydning eller funksjon (10 min) Hva tror dere objektet ble brukt til eller representerer? Hva tror du personen som har skapt objektet har vurdert om materialvalg & utforming? Hvordan ville objektet bli relevant i din forskning? 3. Plenum: Presentasjona av interkasjon & objektene i plenum (20 min) Fasilitator forteller om objektet (4 x 5 min). Hvordan beskrev din gruppe objektet? Hva la gruppen spesiell merket ti? Hvilken betydtning har objektet i forskning? Hvilke forskningsspørsmål er fortsatt utbesvart. ArcHum Toolkit 1/2025
