Today, eal- ime AI ools a e becoming e y popula in language lea ning. Apps like
ELSA Speak o Duolingo Speaking AI can lis en o he s uden ’s oice and gi e
ins an eedback. These apps show he mis akes in p onuncia ion, g amma , o s ess,
and hey also ell he lea ne how o say he wo d o sen ence co ec ly. This kind o
suppo helps s uden s lea n as e because hey do no ha e o wai o he eache o
co ec hem. AI eedback also makes s uden s mo e con iden , because hey can
p ac ice any ime and epea he exe cise as many imes as hey wan .
Many eache s and esea che s belie e ha AI can be a s ong ool o imp o ing
speaking luency. Howe e , he e is s ill a need o s udy how much AI helps s uden s
in eal lea ning si ua ions. Fo his eason, his esea ch ocuses on unde s anding he
e ec o eal- ime AI eedback on ESL lea ne s’ spoken luency. The goal is o see
whe he s uden s who use AI imp o e mo e han s uden s who use adi ional
speaking p ac ice [1].
Me hods
This s udy was done wi h 30 in e media e ESL lea ne s. The esea ch las ed o six
weeks. The s uden s we e di ided in o wo g oups. The i s g oup used eal- ime AI
speaking apps e e y day o 15 minu es. They used apps like ELSA Speak, which
ga e ins an eedback on p onuncia ion, s ess, and g amma . The second g oup
p ac iced speaking in he adi ional way. They did pai wo k, eading aloud, and
simple speaking asks, bu hey did no use any AI ools.
Be o e he s udy began, bo h g oups ook a p e- es based on he IELTS Speaking
Band Desc ip o s. This helped he esea che unde s and he s uden s’ s a ing le el.
A e six weeks, bo h g oups ook a pos - es wi h he same o ma . The sco es we e
compa ed o see which g oup imp o ed mo e. The esea che also asked s uden s
simple ques ions abou how hey el du ing he lea ning p ocess.
Resul s
The esul s o he s udy showed a s ong and clea di e ence be ween he wo g oups.
The g oup ha used eal- ime AI eedback made much bigge p og ess in speaking
luency and p onuncia ion. A e six weeks, he AI g oup imp o ed hei luency
sco e by abou 1.0 band. Thei p onuncia ion sco e inc eased by 0.8 band. Many
s uden s in his g oup said hey el mo e con iden speaking English because he AI
apps co ec ed hei mis akes immedia ely. They explained ha hey could p ac ice

wai ing o he eache ’s eedback ook mo e ime, and his slowed hei p og ess.
The es esul s and s uden opinions oge he show ha eal- ime AI eedback helped

AI ools also suppo ed s uden con idence and ga e hem mo e chances o p ac ice

The esul s o he s udy show ha eal- ime AI eedback can help ESL lea ne s
imp o e hei speaking skills mo e e ec i ely han adi ional p ac ice. S uden s in
he AI g oup made bigge p og ess because hey ecei ed co ec ions immedia ely
a e making a mis ake. This helped hem unde s and wha hey we e doing w ong
and ix i a he same momen . When s uden s can hea hei mis akes and epea he
co ec e sion, hey lea n as e and emembe he co ec p onuncia ion longe . This
is one o he main easons why he AI g oup imp o ed mo e in luency and
p onuncia ion [2].

lea ning. Some s uden s in he adi ional g oup also said hey needed mo e eache
suppo and mo e ime o unde s and hei mis akes. This shows ha adi ional
p ac ice alone may no be enough o as imp o emen in speaking luency.
E en hough AI eedback is e y help ul, he e a e s ill some small challenges. Some
s uden s said ha he AI app some imes had di icul y unde s anding hei accen o
oice. A ew s uden s el s essed when he app showed many mis akes a once. This
means ha AI ools a e use ul, bu hey canno ully eplace a human eache .

O e all, he discussion shows ha eal- ime AI eedback is a s ong ool o

This s udy shows ha eal- ime AI eedback has a s ong and posi i e e ec on
imp o ing spoken luency in ESL lea ne s. The s uden s who used AI speaking apps
made much bigge p og ess han he s uden s who p ac iced in he adi ional way.
They imp o ed mo e in bo h luency and p onuncia ion, and hey also el mo e
con iden when speaking English. These esul s mean ha AI ools can suppo
lea ne s in a e y e ec i e way because hey gi e as and clea co ec ions a he
exac momen he mis ake happens.
Real- ime AI eedback also helps s uden s lea n a hei own speed. They can epea
wo ds and sen ences as many imes as hey wan , and hey do no ha e o wai o a
eache ’s answe . This makes p ac ice easie and mo e com o able, especially o shy
s uden s who do no like speaking in on o o he s. The AI ools also make lea ning
mo e engaging because s uden s can lis en o hei own oice, see hei p og ess, and
unde s and hei imp o emen .
