wi h co up ion and a lack o o e sigh . Kwayie (2023) ecoun s ha pa icipa o y budge ing and ou come-based
epo ing se ed nume ous dono - unded p ojec s success ully in Ghana by con inuing o ha e he same dono keep
dono con idence and achie e communi y accep ance. Ilesanmi and A olabi (2022) simila ly s a e ha , in Nige ia and
Kenya, decen aliza ion o inancial decisions has enhanced owne ship wi hin he communi y, whe e managed

p ac ices. The scandals on mo al pi alls, especially in he managemen and epo ing o unds, ha e disc edi ed a ious
majo de elopmen p ojec s. A o and Mupa (2025) documen he cases in Eas A ica whe e se e al non-disclosu es
o he con lic o in e es cases and mis ep esen a ions o inancial in o ma ion, o he wise known as ETHICAL FAILURE,
esul ed in he wi hd awal o dono s and collapse o he p og ams. Mankambila and Ma wa (2024) con inue ha misuse
o unds, which in mos cases is as a esul o bad p ocu emen managemen o insu icien documen a ion, is s ill one
o he issues, as is e iden in pos -con lic a eas. Addi ionally, sus ainabili y is a g owing issue. Ma sa e al. (2023)

because o he absence o capaci y-building and he ac ha ecipien o ganiza ions do no ha e long- e m inancial
planning.

in he U.S., whe e lack o eedback and e ec i e supply chain use esul ed in o e lapping p o isions and was e o
esou ces. Such cases esemble he ini ial issues aced by in e na ional de elopmen ini ia i es, especially in pos -

pa icipa o y e alua ion amewo ks. Acco ding o Ilmu and Maesa oh (2024), he e is a common p ac ice in Sou heas
Asian p ojec s, namely communi y sco eca ds and eal- ime inancial dashboa ds, which all dono s and bene icia ies
can use o ack he p og ess and cos s o a p ojec a he same ime. This p omo es a sense o sha ed accoun abili y ha
is alien o he U.S. communi y-based p og ams ha only moni o inancial in o ma ion du ing he audi ing p ocess o

4. Adap ing Global Bes P ac ices o U.S. Nonp o i s
T ans e ing global inancial managemen p ac ices o he ealm o nonp o i s in he U.S. con ex manda es signi ican

domes ic con ex . In A ica, Asia, and La in Ame ica, dono - unded p ojec s a e equen ly conduc ed and, as such,
equi e a high le el o accoun abili y, good use o esou ces, and solu ions ancho ed in he communi ies. Mos o hese
inno a ions, pa icula ly hose ela ed o p ocu emen , compliance, in e nal con ols, and communi y engagemen , can
be signi ican ly adap ed o U.S.-based communi y p og ams ha a e inc easingly s uggling wi h anspa ency,
sus ainabili y, and inancial li e acy.

o he inancial ope a ions and libe a ing human esou ces o deli e he co e se ices. Al hough U.S. nonp o i s wo y
abou he cos and lack o skills ha educe hei eadiness o implemen such sys ems, modula and low-cos AI
p oduc s may be p esen ed ia common se ices acili ies o by unde -based pla o ms. Such sys ems would need an

en e p ise (SMME) sys ems a e also qui e pe inen . Adebiyi e al. (2025) unde line he e icacy o egionalized inancial
app oaches, which could en isage mobile audi ails, ie e iew budge ing sys ems, and pa icipa o y inancial es s
and e iews in engende ing owne ship and u gency in small companies. Al hough he concep s a e c ea ed business o
business, hey a e applicable o he scope and capaci y o ope a ions o he many U.S. g ass oo s nonp o i s. The
implemen a ion o hese models would aid in p o iding budge ing, o ecas ing, and cash low gaps and also p o ide
inc eased con idence by dono s in inancial managemen .
In addi ion o sys ems and compliance, e ec i e dono - unded p og ams ha e been highly ocused on communi y
pa icipa ion and empowe men , which a e unde u ilized in nume ous U.S.-based unding models. Nga ia and Kiha a
(2018) and Komba and Ki ole (2025) epo on he posi i e impac o pa icipa o y aining models in enhancing
inancial li e acy, enhancing anspa ency, and mee ing local in e en ions. Speci ically, Komba and Ki ole emphasize
ha communi y-led moni o ing and epo ing p omo e owne ship and mi iga e co up ion. Such o ms o pa icipa o y
budge ing migh be aken up by U.S. nonp o i s, especially hose ha wo k wi h his o ically ma ginalized g oups, o
democ a ize he budge p ocess and hold g an expendi u e accoun able o he e y communi y in which i is bene i ing.
Communi y eedback loops migh also be embedded in o he inancial epo ing p ocess, which may also ques ion he

echnological inno a ion, pe o mance-based unding, compliance wi h he law sys ems, and anspa ency sys ems can
enable inancial go e nance in he domes ic nonp o i p ac ice.
