Supporting Research Through Information Infrastructure in TRR 391
Abstract
The poster presents the role of the INF project within TRR 391, along with its current activities and milestones achieved. The aim of the project is to ensure smooth collaboration on all data processes between project teams from different universities and disciplines. The support and infrastructure provided by this project will ensure that TRR 391 can implement common standards for the reproducibility of research results and the reuse of research data.

INF:Informationinfrastructureproject Prof. Dr. Paul-Christian Bürkner, Prof. Dr. Andreas Groll, Dr. Philipp Breidenbach Ensuring a smooth cooperation of all data processes between the participating teams from different universities and disciplines: research data management, interoperability of data and software, and training and support of researchers. The support and infrastructure provided by this project will ensure that TRR 391 can implement the common standards with respect to the reproducibility of research results and re-use of research data. INF Needs Analysis Requirements analysis ▶Completed as key milestone ▶Forms the basis for TRR-wide research data management support ▶Conducted via expert interviews to identify challenges, needs, and current practices ▶Follow-up discussions can be organized if necessary Results ▶FDM status: heterogeneous, some GitHub usage, need for best practices ▶ Data types: simulation, open datasets, licensed datasets, time series, survey, field experiment data ▶ Data Mmanagement: use of SQL databases, automated Linux systems, local and cloud storage ▶Collaboration: mostly informal, formats/software hinder interoperability ▶Software infrastructure: R, Python, C++, VS Code, GitHub ▶ Training needs: R/Python, GitHub, data management plan tools, markdown, big data, web scraping, R package development, reproducibility INF Field Analysis ▶ Results from field analysis showed high cooperation potential with different stakeholders in the field of RDM ▶Potential INF cooperation partners ▶TU Dortmund University research data management ▶Ruhr-University Bochum ▶NFDI4Energy, KonsortSWD, NFDI4DS, NFDI4Earth, Mardi4NFDI ▶Paderborn Center of Parallel Computing Relevant contact persons visible on TRR 391 INF Website INF Training ▶STAIRS workshop: research data management, coding & Git ▶Part 1: managing your research data (FDM TUDo) ▶Part 2: research data management and Git – a good combination (project INF) ⋆Folder structure, naming conventions, code structure ⋆Version control with Git(hub) ▶Part 3: file formats and APIs for spatial and spatiotemporal data (Edzer Pebesma) ▶Slides project INF: see QR code INF Cooperation Use Case Paderborn Center for Parallel Computing ▶ “NHR Verbund” – simplifications for scientifically reviewed projects (DFG, EU, ministries) ▶ Only adequacy of requested computing resources is evaluated for TRR 391 projects ▶ Required info: short project description, tables for application usage, benchmarks/scaling, resource calculation, timeline ▶ Project organization: single projects or subprojects, each with a PI ▶ Multi-year applications allowed; reduces repeated submissions ▶ Individual access possible (e.g., NHR-Starter projects: 1 year, limited resources) ▶Guidance: see QR code INF Support Use Case Firm Data ▶Supports access to data sources ▶ Coordinates and harmonizes scientists’ data requirements ▶Manages data transfer and access ▶ Provides support for NDAs (non-disclosure agreements) Additional Guidance to Reproducible Science ▶ Kline, Patrick, Evan K.
