SHLF Toolkit - Purple People Forge: Open Educational Resources for MIS

Mattei, Gianpiero

Abstract

Laying the Foundations for Future Bionic Capability Orchestrators Laying the foundations for future Bionic Capability Orchestrators The SHLF (Systemic Hybrid Learning Framework) Toolkit is a set of open educational resources designed to support teaching and learning in Management Information Systems (MIS). It trains “purple people”: hybrid professionals who bridge business strategy, process design and technical implementation. The Toolkit aims to lay the foundations for the emergence of Bionic Capability Orchestrators (BCO). It extends the “purple people” concept towards architects who design, govern and evolve enterprise digital ecosystems that combine information systems and ERP platforms with data and analytics, AI and low-code / no-code tools. Within these ecosystems, workers and systems are enabled to evolve over time, using technologies to bionically extend their cognitive and operational capabilities rather than replace them. The Toolkit does not claim to turn students into BCOs directly; instead, it provides the conceptual and methodological groundwork that can support this trajectory, which is fully developed through professional practice and experience in real organisations. Toolkit components (v1.0) The Master Kit integrates four pedagogical pillars into a cohesive system AI-Enhanced Metacognitive Diary: a reflective learning module based on the "2+2 Rule" (2 AI-assisted + 2 autonomous answers), designed to develop AI literacy and prevent cognitive atrophy. TIAM Framework: a structured analysis methodology with an automated Excel tool (VBA) for quantitative scoring of technologies across Technology-Innovation-Adoption-Market dimensions. FRESCHI Case Study: a longitudinal consulting simulation (AS-IS → Requirements → ERP Selection → TO-BE → Roadmap). Unlike standard exercises, it focuses on systemic ecosystem evolution and semi-quantitative decision making (MCDA). TIAM Framework: a structured analysis methodology with an automated Excel tool (VBA) for quantitative scoring of technologies across Technology-Innovation-Adoption-Market dimensions. Evaluation System: configurable rubrics (Excel) aligned with the Swiss grading scale (1-6) for assessing strategic, analytical, and metacognitive competencies. Field-Tested Pedagogy This educational architecture is not merely theoretical but emerged from: 20+ years of teaching Management Information Systems at SUPSI (Switzerland). Supervision of 50+ industry-based thesis projects, ensuring the method works in real-world consulting scenarios. Direct integration of professional consulting practice and applied R&D. Pedagogical foundations Frameworks: TPACK, DigCompEdu, SAMR, UDL, UNESCO AI Competence Paradigms: Project-Based Learning, experiential learning, reflective practice Validation: Design Science Research (DSR), expert review, industry outcomes Target competencies Information sytstem strategy, strategic alignment (Business ↔ IS) Techology management Process analysis & optimization (BPMN, KPI) Enterprise systems governance (ERP/CRM/SCM selection, architecture) Data-driven decision making Ethical AI usage & critical evaluation Target roles Digital Transformation Manager, IT Strategist, Business Technologist, Process Analyst, ERP Solution Designer Target audience MIS educators, Instructional designers, Students, Practitioners in digital transformation. Important Note on Instructional Materials This repository contains the open methodological architecture (cases, methods, tools, rubrics). The full instructional slide decks are not included as they represent a proprietary curated asset. Instructors interested in the pedagogical content and bibliographic layers of the slides are invited to contact the author for academic collaboration.

SHLF Systemic Hybrid Learning Framework (Purple People Forge) Course Syllabus - Information Systems for Enterprises This resource is part of the SHLF Toolkit – Purple People Forge: Open Educational Resources for MIS (v1.0) Gianpiero Mattei Department of Innovative Technologies (SUPSI-DTI) Version 1.0 | AY: 2024-2025 2 Course Syllabus (v1.0) │ SHLF Toolkit - Purple People Forge | © 2025 Gianpiero Mattei │ DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.17801180 Course Overview & Objectives This syllabus outlines the specific curriculum for the Academic Year 2024/2025. The course is built upon the SHLF (Systemic Hybrid Learning Framework), a resilient pedagogical architecture designed to be inherently modular and adaptive. The framework provides a consistent methodological backbone (based on the Longitudinal Case Study, Metacognitive Diary, and TIAM Analysis), while the specific modules, technological tools, and market scenarios are dynamically updated each year. This modular approach allows the course to integrate the latest Digital Transformation paradigms (e.g., evolving ERP platforms, GenAI advances, and Industry 5.0 trends) without sacrificing methodological rigor.
