Recognising & Rewarding Open Science in the Netherlands

Abstract

The transition to Open Science (OS) requires a collective culture change in research. To support this change, Open Science NL launched in 2024 a call for initiatives to develop and implement policy plans at Dutch universities, university medical centres and research institutes to recognise and reward OS practices. The one-year initiatives vary per institution depending on their progress on the Reward and Recognition roadmap from 2023 and on the OS practices they focus on. To ensure alignment between institutions and with international reform movements, a two-year national coordination has been set up. This project organises national mutual learning meetings to inspire each other, promote collective action, and exchange knowledge and experiences, including good practices. In addition, the project is committed to developing shared principles on the recognition and rewarding of OS.
