This article investigates the cultural connotations, symbolic meanings, and idiomatic expressions associated with zoonyms. The findings reveal that zoonyms embody societal beliefs, values, and environmental interactions, functioning as cultural artifacts that shape identities and worldviews. Additionally, the study examines the impact of globalization on the evolution of zoonyms within increasingly interconnected linguistic landscapes. The article emphasizes the importance of zoonyms in understanding cultural narratives and cognitive frameworks. Аннотация: Зоонимы, или названия животных, служат важнейшими лингвистическими элементами, которые дают представление о сложных взаимоотношениях между языком и культурой. Результаты исследования показывают, что зоонимы воплощают социальные убеждения, ценности и взаимодействие с окружающей средой, функционируя как культурные артефакты, которые формируют идентичность и мировоззрение. Кроме того, в исследовании рассматривается влияние глобализации на эволюцию зоонимов в рамках все более взаимосвязанных лингвистических ландшафтов. Annotatsiya: Zoonimlar yoki hayvonlarning nomlari til va madaniyat o'rtasidagi murakkab munosabatlar haqida tushuncha beradigan eng muhim lingvistik elementlar bo'lib xizmat qiladi. Ushbu maqola zoonimlar bilan bog'liq madaniy ma'nolar, ramziy ma'nolar va idiomatik iboralarni o'rganadi. In various cultures, the way people characterize animals through language reveals underlying beliefs, values, and environmental interactions, indicating how closely intertwined human experiences are with the natural world. 3 163 4 7.2 Zoonyms are not merely labels; they are deeply embedded within cultural narratives, folklore, mythology, and religious texts. In many traditions, animals embody moral lessons or cultural archetypes that reflect the social fabric of the community. They also evoke emotional responses, symbolizing virtues, vices, and societal ideals. This article delves into how zoonyms serve as cultural artifacts encapsulating human experience, exploring their implications for understanding cultural identity, social dynamics, and ecological awareness. Materials and Methods. This study employs a comparative and content analysis methodology to scrutinize various zoonyms across different linguistic and cultural contexts. Data sources include dictionaries, linguistic corpora, ethnographic studies, and literary works that prominently feature the use of zoonyms. The research integrates perspectives with particular attention to work conducted on cultural semantics and language in Uzbekistan. Interviews with native speakers, along with field studies capturing the use of animal names in daily life and traditional practices, provide qualitative data and enrich the understanding of how zoonyms function within diverse cultural frameworks. By combining these methods, the study aims to uncover not only the linguistic characteristics of zoonyms but also their cultural significance and social implications, thereby providing a comprehensive approach to understanding their roles in both global and local contexts. Results. The results reveal a rich tapestry of cultural connotations associated with zoonyms, illustrating how these terms embody the values and beliefs of various societies. In Russian culture, for example, the bear (медведь) symbolizes strength, endurance, and national pride, especially against the backdrop of historical events. In contrast, the fox (лиса) reflects cunning and deceitfulness, illustrating a more critical societal view of certain human behaviors. Within Uzbek culture, animal names often reflect a deep connection to nature and the surrounding environment. The horse (ot) is revered, symbolizing freedom, nobility, and the historical significance of nomadic lifestyles. Such associations are further demonstrated through various proverbs and idiomatic expressions that highlight cultural values. For instance, the phrase “Zaminda ot bayrami” translates to “The horse festival on the land,” symbolizing community and celebration, particularly in agricultural societies. Furthermore, the analysis sheds light on the impact of zoonyms in literature, folklore, and art across cultures. In Uzbek literature, traditional epics and folk tales often feature animals as central characters that embody moral lessons, such as the use of the clever tortoise in fables. Prominent poets like Alisher Navoi utilize animal symbolism to communicate deeper messages about humanity and the human experience. Discussion. The relationship between zoonyms and cultural consciousness underscores the vital role animals play in shaping linguistic landscapes. These terms extend 3 164 4 7.2 beyond mere words; they encapsulate cultural narratives that reveal collective values and shared histories. The contrasting perceptions of domesticated animals, such as dogs and horses, highlight cultural attitudes toward relationships, loyalty, and trust. In societies where dogs symbolize companionship, their names evoke warmth and affection, while in other cultures, dogs may represent danger or mistrust, indicating societal contrasts. Additionally, the metaphorical usage of animals enriches language and reflects societal values. For example, the use of animals in metaphors—such as “eagle-eyed” for vigilance or “sheepish” for timidity—illustrates how cultural perceptions inform human self-conceptions. This linguistic interplay shows how zoonyms function within the moral, social, and historical context of societies, shaping people’s understanding of their environment, values, and themselves. In light of globalization, the cultural exchange has significantly impacted the meanings and usages of zoonyms. English zoonyms have been introduced into various languages, leading to shifts in connotations and interpretations. This phenomenon raises questions regarding cultural integrity and the preservation of traditional meanings amidst rapid linguistic change. Moreover, the influence of social media and technology has transformed the way zoonyms are employed and perceived. As individuals and communities share information across platforms, zoonyms evolve, alternating between cultural significance and modern interpretations. The challenge lies in maintaining the richness of these terms while adapting to contemporary contexts. Conclusion. Zoonyms hold a central place in the study of linguoculturology, serving as reflections of cultural identities and the social fabric of societies. Their examination reveals a wealth of information about collective beliefs, values, social structures, and human interactions with the natural world. As globalization continues to shape linguistic landscapes, understanding the significance of zoonyms in cultural narratives becomes increasingly important.
