NOVASOIL Online Event: Soil Health for a Sustainable Future (Tuesday, 12 December) The event comprehensively addressed soil health as a central axis for developing a sustainable future and brought together a diverse audience of more than 240 participants. This was made possible by an effective digital marketing strategy designed to reach a wide range of people interested in the topic. A key focus of the discussion was the identification and critical role of key stakeholders in the design and implementation of innovative business models that promote soil health. Emphasis was placed on organic farming practices and the need to raise public awareness of the critical importance of maintaining and improving soil fertility as a challenge for society. During the presentations and discussions, a variety of soil management practices were shared and explored, such as minimizing tillage, incorporating cover crops, implementing crop rotations, and adopting agroforestry. These techniques were discussed as effective means of not only improving soil health but also increasing carbon sequestration, highlighting their relevance in the context of the current climate crisis. Carbon farming was also explored from an innovative perspective, looking at business models beyond the traditional agri-food chain. One notable example was the opportunity for farmers to generate additional income by selling carbon credits to offset carbon emissions from industries not directly related to agriculture. This discussion highlighted the emergence of carbon markets as a relevant economic opportunity for the agricultural sector. Finally, the event culminated in the launch of a Digital Knowledge Centre, an initiative designed to serve as a comprehensive resource for those interested in soil health. This center aims to provide access to up-to-date information on soil health business models, relevant policies, best practices and projects under development. The intention is to foster a vibrant and engaged community of practice that can share knowledge, experiences and solutions to common challenges in promoting soil health, thus becoming a pillar for progress towards sustainability in agriculture and land management. 19 This project has received funding from the European Union’s HORIZON-AG - HORIZON Action Grant Budget-Based research and innovation programme under grant agreement GA 101091268 • Strong Overall Reach. During the period analyzed, the website attracted 11,374 sessions from 8,962 unique users. These figures highlight the project's ability to both attract new visitors and retain returning ones, underscoring the strength of its digital strategy and content relevance. These statistics together paint a picture of a website with a base level of consistent user interest, punctuated by periods of significantly higher engagement. Understanding the drivers behind these peaks could be valuable for strategic planning, content scheduling, or marketing efforts to enhance user engagement further. It might also be useful to examine the correlation of these spikes with specific events or content releases to better understand user behavior and preferences. The trend of weekly average sessions on the NOVASOIL project website reveals how user engagement has evolved over time. The plot shows the average number of sessions per week, offering a smoother view of trends by reducing the impact of day-to-day fluctuations. Key observations from the trend might include: • Periods of Increased Engagement: Peaks in the graph indicate weeks where the website experienced higher than average user sessions. These could correlate with specific events, such as marketing campaigns, new content releases, or external factors driving interest to the site. • Stability or Variability: The overall trend line provides insights into whether user engagement has been stable, increasing, or decreasing over the observed period. A stable line would suggest consistent interest, whereas a visible upward or downward trend could indicate growing or waning user engagement, respectively. • Seasonal Patterns or Anomalies: Any recurring patterns in the data might suggest seasonal trends in user engagement, which could be crucial for planning future content or marketing strategies. This visual trend analysis offers a foundation for deeper exploration into what drives engagement on the NOVASOIL project website, aiding in strategic decisions to enhance user interaction. The inclusion of a trend line in the graph depicting average weekly sessions (Figure 7). offers a clear visual tool for understanding the evolution of user interaction over time. While weekly fluctuations are present, the trend line helps smooth out these short-term variations, making long-term patterns easier to interpret. The trend line reveals a slight upward trajectory, indicating a gradual increase in average weekly sessions throughout the period. This suggests that user engagement has been improving steadily, despite occasional rises and dips. Two noticeable spikes—one in mid-2024 and another in early 2025—likely align with communication campaigns, key project milestones, or external events that successfully drew more visitors. Although the overall increase is modest, it points to a positive direction in outreach efforts. To build this momentum, there is room to further refine
20 This project has received funding from the European Union’s HORIZON-AG - HORIZON Action Grant Budget-Based research and innovation programme under grant agreement GA 101091268 strategies. Identifying the drivers behind the peaks—whether content launches, media coverage, or stakeholder events—can provide actionable insights for future engagement. So, the data point to a progressively strengthening online presence for NOVASOIL. Ongoing traffic analysis and well-timed, targeted communication will be key to sustaining and accelerating this upward trend. Prediction Model In this report, we analyze in detail the process and findings of a predictive study conducted with session data from the NOVASOIL project website. This analysis is essential to inform strategic decisions and effectively achieve planned objectives. To carry out this analysis, the Prophet model was selected due to its excellent performance in handling time series that present complex trends and seasonality, as well as its robustness to incomplete data and its accessible operability. The choice of Prophet, developed by Facebook, as a predictive analysis tool is justified by its intrinsic ability to disaggregate time series components into trends, seasonality's and holiday effects, which makes the model especially suitable for forecasts with a high degree of complexity. In addition, Prophet is distinguished by its flexibility and its ability to handle irregularities in data, thus providing reliable and easily interpretable forecasts, which is vital to support data-driven decision making. Evaluation of the Predictive Model and Comparison with Real DataData In the previous reporting period, a predictive analysis was carried out using the Prophet model (developed by Facebook’s research team), aimed at anticipating trends in user sessions on the NOVASOIL project website. This tool enabled the team to forecast traffic evolution and guide strategic planning for the project's digital outreach. Comparing Forecasts with Actual Website Sessions The model anticipated a relatively stable usage pattern, with a moderate number of daily sessions and no major fluctuations in the long term. Now, with over a year’s worth of additional data available, it is possible to assess how the actual figures align with those projections. Several key insights emerge: • General Trend Confirmed: Real session data has closely followed the overall trend predicted by the Prophet model. Daily traffic largely stayed within the expected behavioral range, confirming the model's strength in capturing the typical dynamics of user engagement. • Values Within Confidence Interval: Many recorded sessions remained within the 95% confidence interval defined by the model. This consistency validates Prophet as a reliable tool for forecasting, especially when working with time series that include seasonality and irregular patterns. • Positive Spikes in Traffic: Despite the forecast of steady activity, notable spikes occurred—most significantly, the peak of 154 sessions on 9 April
21 This project has received funding from the European Union’s HORIZON-AG - HORIZON Action Grant Budget-Based research and innovation programme under grant agreement GA 101091268 2024. Rather than being an outlier, such moments reflect the project's strong capacity to attract attention when driven by targeted communication actions or relevant events. • Sustained Engagement Despite Forecasted Dip: While the model suggested a slight downward trend in session counts over time, actual performance has shown a more stable and resilient engagement than expected. This indicates continued interest from users and highlights the effectiveness of ongoing dissemination efforts. Weekly and Seasonal Patterns Beyond the overall trend, the model also highlighted recurring patterns in user behavior—insights that have proven particularly useful for planning communication efforts. • Midweek Engagement Stands Out: As predicted, Wednesdays and Thursdays consistently attract the most visitors. These days, present key opportunities for sharing updates and launching new content. • Seasonal High Points Confirmed: Sessions tend to rise during spring and autumn, reflecting moments of heightened interest—often coinciding with project milestones, campaigns, or related events. These seasonal rhythms can guide future outreach to maximize visibility and impact. Visits by countries The most recent analysis of the NOVASOIL project website confirms a remarkable expansion in its global visibility compared to previous reporting periods (D 5.10). Whereas earlier results (up to March 2024) showed a stronger concentration of sessions in European countries such as Spain, Italy, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, the current data reveals a much broader international footprint that now extends across multiple continents.
22 This project has received funding from the European Union’s HORIZON-AG - HORIZON Action Grant Budget-Based research and innovation programme under grant agreement GA 101091268 Figure 8.User distribution heat map. Current Overview Between 1 January 2024 and 22 October 2025, the NOVASOIL website recorded 9,002 sessions from users located in more than 120 countries. The most active countries were India (31.5%), the United States (19%), Kenya (5.4%), and Spain (5.3%), followed by Italy, Germany, and several other European and African nations. This geographical diversification marks a clear evolution from previous periods. In earlier analyses, European countries — especially Spain and Italy — dominated the traffic. Today, the picture has changed dramatically: the strongest growth comes from Asia and Africa, while engagement from North America has also increased substantially. Interpretation and Key Insights • Stronger Global Reach: The steady increase in visits from India and the United States demonstrates that NOVASOIL’s communication efforts are now resonating with audiences far beyond Europe. • Emerging Interest in Africa: The appearance of Kenya and Cameroon among the top countries illustrates growing visibility in African regions, aligning perfectly with NOVASOIL’s scientific and environmental goals • European Engagement Sustained: Spain and Italy remain key contributors, showing stable engagement despite the diversification of the audience base. • Balanced International Presence: The website now attracts both research-oriented users from Europe and North America and community-driven visitors from emerging regions, indicating that NOVASOIL’s message is both accessible and globally relevant

The distribution suggests a core group of countries generating the majority of traffic, likely because of targeted dissemination efforts or project activities involving stakeholders in those regions. Year-on-Year Comparison When compared to the previous monitoring period (1 November 2023 – 28 March 2024), which recorded 3,884 sessions from 77 countries, the growth is clearly substantial: Table 2. Sessions and countries by time periods and exchange rate The data reveals robust and consistent growth across all key indicators. In particular, the tripling of total session volume and the significant increase in geographical diversity reflect the growing visibility and impact of the NOVASOIL platform. This notable increase in traffic and reach can be attributed to the effective use of digital marketing techniques, including organic search engine optimization (SEO), targeted campaigns, strategic communication on social media platforms, and an increased presence at international events and conferences. The leading position of India suggests a possible consolidation of stakeholder engagement in that region, while the continued strength of countries such as Spain, Italy, and Belgium confirm their strategic importance to the project’s dissemination and stakeholder outreach. Additionally, the improvement in average and median values per country suggests a broader distribution of interest, while the high variability highlights the importance of continuing to adapt strategies based on regional response and digital behavior trends. Social Media To improve communication strategies and better understand how users interact with the NOVASOIL project website, a detailed analysis has been conducted using data from Google Analytics 4 (GA4). The dataset originates from a custom report labeled “Manual Session Source”, generated directly from the GA4 dashboard linked to NOVASOIL’s official website. This report categorizes user sessions based on the source through which visitors accessed the site, offering valuable insights into entry channels, engagement, and navigation behavior. Key metrics considered in this analysis include: • Total number of users and sessions by traffic source • Percentage of engaged sessions Metric 2023–2024 2024–2025 Change (%) Total sessions 3,884 10,017 157.90% Number of countries with visits 77 128 66.20% Average sessions per-country 50.45 78.26 55.10% Median sessions per-country 7 10 42.90% Standard deviation 113.91 313.71 175.40%

These insights will support evidence-based adjustments to future digital marketing and outreach activities, helping to enhance the overall impact and user experience. Based on data collected through Google Analytics 4 (GA4), we can gain a clear understanding of how users interact with the official NOVASOIL project website. The key performance indicators for the analyzed period are as follows: • Unique users: 8,703 This figure represents the total number of individual visitors who accessed the site, reflecting strong visibility and reaching across diverse audiences. • Total sessions: 9,399 The fact that the number of sessions exceeds the number of users suggests a level of returning visitors, indicating a sustained interest in the site’s content. • Engaged sessions: 3,332 According to GA4 standards, a session is considered ‘engaged’ if it lasts longer than 10 seconds, includes a conversion event, or involves two or more page views. More than a third of the sessions met these criteria, showing meaningful interaction with the website. • Engagement rate: 35.45% This is a solid rate for a scientific and outreach-focused platform. It means that over one in three sessions resulted in some form of active engagement, such as exploring multiple pages or interacting with the content. According to GA4 standards, a session is considered ‘engaged’ if it lasts longer than 10 seconds, includes a conversion event, or involves two or more page views. • Average engagement time per session: 21 seconds While brief, this duration is consistent with typical user behavior on information-based platforms. It suggests that visitors often find what they’re looking for quickly and efficiently, possibly accessing specific data or project updates. These indicators show a stable flow of traffic with a reasonably positive level of user engagement. Although a significant portion of sessions did not qualify as
26 This project has received funding from the European Union’s HORIZON-AG - HORIZON Action Grant Budget-Based research and innovation programme under grant agreement GA 101091268 'engaged', the overall engagement rate indicates that the website has succeeded in capturing and retaining attention from a meaningful share of its visitors. Based on data extracted from Google Analytics, we can observe both the volume and quality of user engagement depending on the origin of the traffic. One of the most striking findings is that more than half of the sessions — specifically 5,122 out of 9,399 — are labeled as (not set). This category typically includes sessions where the traffic source could not be determined due to missing UTM parameters, untagged links, or certain privacy settings that limit data sharing. Although these sessions represent a substantial share of the total, their engagement rate is the lowest among all sources (29.4%), and the average engagement time is just 16 seconds, indicating that many of these users may only visit briefly or access a single page before exiting. In contrast, Google emerges as the most valuable and reliable traffic source. With over 3,700 sessions and an engagement rate of 40.7%, it confirms the effectiveness of search engine visibility and content relevance. Visitors arriving from Google spend on average 27 seconds on the site, with a consistent
33 This project has received funding from the European Union’s HORIZON-AG - HORIZON Action Grant Budget-Based research and innovation programme under grant agreement GA 101091268 diversified communication approach across platforms. The latest data confirms that the project has been able to attract and sustain attention from a wide audience, with over 9,000 sessions and 8,700 active users, maintaining a balanced engagement rate of around 35%. These figures demonstrate both reach and relevance, two pillars that have guided the project’s dissemination activities. Digital marketing has proven essential in supporting not only visibility, but also interaction and strategic targeting. The combination of organic search, social media, institutional platforms, and even emerging tools such as AIdriven search (e.g., ChatGPT) reflects a growing ecosystem of interest around NOVASOIL’s mission. Moreover, improvements in tracking and traffic segmentation now offer a clearer picture of who is engaging, when, and how — allowing for better-informed decisions about future content and outreach priorities. While challenges such as increasing the depth of interaction and diversifying high-retention sources remain, the project has taken clear steps forward. It has demonstrated adaptability, a capacity for continuous learning, and a willingness to adjust its digital strategies in response to real-time feedback and performance data. This agile and reflective approach is vital in today’s fastchanging communication landscape. Looking ahead, NOVASOIL is well placed to scale its efforts and deepen its impact. Continued optimization of dissemination activities, combined with stronger engagement strategies and the inclusion of new digital technologies, will be key to maximising sustainability and long-term value. The trajectory so far reflects a thoughtful combination of applied research, consortium collaboration, and digital innovation — a path that is leading the project towards a more connected, informed and sustainable agricultural future.
