The article examines the method of “analysis through the author’s trace” as one of the effective approaches to studying a literary work in school and higher literary pedagogy. This method makes it possible to trace the writer’s creative intention and reconstruct the cause-and-effect relationships between the author’s biography, the historical and cultural context, and the content of the text. Special attention is given to the stages of analysis: reconstructing the author’s position, identifying artistic dominants, and determining the author’s worldview and aesthetic orientations. The significance of this method in forming reading competence as well as developing the analytical and critical thinking of students is highlighted. Keywords: author’s intention, literary analysis, literary education, context, interpretation, methodology of teaching literature. In the modern system of literary education, one of the most effective methods for deeply mastering a literary work is the technique of “analysis through the author’s trace.” This approach focuses on studying the text in relation to the author’s conceptual intention, the idea, and the artistic structure of the work. The method of analyzing a literary text through the author’s trace is a scientific and methodological approach that opens a path to deep and systematic mastery of a literary work. A special role in the development of this method belongs to K.O. Bitibayeva, whose methodological ideas remain relevant in modern literary education. Consistent application of this method contributes to the development of students’ skills in working with literary texts, shaping aesthetic taste, and enabling deep perception of the work. The method of analyzing a literary work “through the author’s trace” occupies a special place in contemporary methodology of teaching literature. It aims to reveal the deeper meanings of the text by understanding the author’s worldview, creative style, and individual vision of the world. Such an approach helps students form a holistic understanding of the literary work and strengthens the connection between the text and the personality of its creator. In school literary education, the key activity is reading and analyzing a literary text. Teaching reading and analyzing a literary work constitutes the main task of the literature teacher. Reading and analysis are inseparable: analysis of a literary text is impossible without reading it. Reading depends on the individual efforts of each student – on their ability to perceive and understand the text, their talents, thinking, and worldview. The main task of the teacher when teaching reading of literary texts is to increase students’ interest and motivation and to cultivate a genuine reader. The most effective way to achieve this is to constantly consider students’ opinions, listen to their thoughts, interact with them, and provide systematic tasks and materials in advance, rather than simply introducing new topics during the lesson. Analysis of a literary work is carried out with the participation of the entire class. Through this process, the teacher becomes acquainted with the perspectives and thoughts of the majority of readers.
Dekabr, 2025-Yil 95 If reading is an individual activity performed by the student personally, then analysis is conducted with the guidance and organization of the teacher. The method of analyzing a literary work through the author’s trace has become one of the most effective approaches in modern literary education. This method emphasizes the study of a text in correlation with the author’s worldview, creative intention, biographical background, and the historical-cultural context in which the work was produced. By tracing the author’s ideas and artistic choices, students develop the ability to perceive a literary text not only as a narrative, but as a complex artistic system shaped by the writer’s personality, values, and aesthetic principles. The author-trace method allows learners to reconstruct the internal logic of the text, understand the motivation behind characters’ actions, and uncover the symbolic and thematic layers embedded in the work. It also fosters deeper reader engagement, enhances interpretative skills, and contributes to the formation of critical and analytical thinking. As a pedagogical tool, this method helps to build a holistic understanding of a literary work by aligning textual analysis with the author’s creative path and ideological position. During analysis, individual work is combined with collective and group work, complementing one another toward one goal: 1. To introduce the student to the perception of a literary work and its emotional impact, and to develop these emotions. 2. To form the aesthetic perception of the work as a piece of art. 3. To develop students’ cognitive abilities and thinking through analysis of the literary text. 4. To teach methods of textual analysis, including examining the theme, system of images, language, and other artistic components of the work. In school practice, literary text analysis is conducted using three main methods: 1. Analysis through the author’s trace; 2. Analysis through the system of images and problem-based thematic analysis; 3. Mixed analysis. Teachers often consider it most effective to combine these three methods of analysis. However, the choice of analysis method depends on the teacher, the length of the work, its genre, and artistic features. Thus, one work may be analyzed through the author’s trace, another through the system of images, and large works through mixed analysis. Analysis through the Author’s Trace and Its Main Objectives In this type of analysis, the teacher pays special attention to the plot, episodes, and the main idea of the author while preserving the unity of content and form. However, it is important to remember that this method should not turn into simple retelling. The teacher should encourage students to characterize characters through their actions and identify the main problems of the work through events. Students in grades 5-7 tend to focus primarily on the most exciting and dramatic events. At this age, they cannot yet fully concentrate on the author’s ideas and the core problems because they are more interested in “chasing events.” Analysis through the author’s trace is very effective for these grades, as students, while becoming familiar with the content of the work, gradually begin to understand the underlying problems, the author’s position, the actions of the characters, and the artistic features of the text.
Dekabr, 2025-Yil 96 Analysis through the author’s trace is a method of studying a literary work in which the text is examined in connection with the author’s aesthetic and ideological positions as well as the structural and value elements of the work. The method involves three main objectives: 1. Revealing the ideological content of the work – identifying the relationship between plot development, character traits, and the author’s intention. 2. Understanding artistic and stylistic elements – analyzing details, portraits, landscapes, symbols, metaphors, plot, and composition as means of expressing the author’s position. 3. Developing students’ interpretive skills – cultivating their ability to work with the text, compare, analyze, and draw independent conclusions. K.O. Bitibayeva considers this method one of the most effective because it corresponds to the logic and artistic nature of a literary work. According to the scholar: “Analysis through the author’s trace is a path to understanding the literary text in unity with the author’s intention. Penetrating each episode, detail, and character’s action from the author’s perspective is the most effective way to introduce students to the inner world of the work.” 1 Example: Teaching M. Auezov’s Story “Kokserek” in Grade 7 In the 7th grade, students read M. Auezov’s story “Kokserek.” Naturally, students – especially boys – are first attracted by the plot. They are captivated by the relationship between Qurmas and Kokserek, the death of Qurmas, and the anger directed at the wolf. However, the author’s position and the deeper problems remain unclear to them. The emotional involvement in the narrative overshadows the key issues of the work. The worlds of humans and wolves are shown in parallel, demonstrating that humans can sometimes be more ruthless than wolves. It is humans who caused Kokserek’s cruelty and led him to attack Qurmas. Perhaps this is the fate of those who violate the laws of nature… To help students understand these central problems, it is necessary to guide them gradually from the first pages. Along with key events, the teacher may use guiding questions that bring students closer to the idea of the story. The sample questions and thematic titles for each part already – listed in your text – provide a structured approach for consistently guiding students toward understanding the story’s idea, conflict, and the author’s position. These questions are aimed at revealing both the content of the story and the problems raised by the author. Final Questions for Summative Analysis 1. Why did the writer title the story “Kokserek”? 2. Which major events reveal the main idea of the story? 3. Who are the main characters: Qurmas, the villagers, or Kokserek? 4. What made Kokserek cruel and vengeful? Is this a natural instinct or the law of the wolves’ existence? In conclusion, analysis of a literary work through the author’s trace enhances students’ interest in literature, encourages a love for reading, and develops critical thinking skills. 1 Q. Bitibayeva.
