TUScholarShare: A Five Year Celebration

Abstract

Temple University Libraries is celebrating its institutional repository's 5th birthday in October 2025 (TUScholarShare). A birthday celebration was chosen because of the festive atmosphere it would bring to the event. Other celebrations had been researched and other institutions had done something similar as well. TUScholarShare(scholarshare.temple.edu) is a service to support the needs of the Temple University community around sharing, promoting, and archiving the wide range of scholarly works created during research and teaching. The repository aims to make Temple scholarship freely available online, with the goal of increasing our community’s global visibility and public value. The repository officially launched March 2020 to little fanfare because of the global COVID-19 pandemic. Librarians responsible for scholarly communications at the libraries wanted to put on an event to highlight the achievements of the repository while also marketing it to a wider audience. The celebration will have an introduction by the library's dean, a demonstration of the platform and what it is capable of, followed by five lighting talk presentations from various stakeholders throughout the university such as evidence synthesis search data deposits and more theoretical deposit workflows around student scholarly projects. The intent of this celebration was twofold: to highlight fun and interesting case uses from different schools and colleges while also gaining valuable marketing information from our population. Marketing data will come in the form of attendees writing on pieces of paper that they can drop into boxes decorated like birthday presents. They’ll be encouraged to write ideas and feedback on how to market or make the repository better.
