Tromsø Virtual Reality Tool Assets
Abstract
These are the assets (pictures and the Enscape software) that may be used with virtual reality glasses (see the User's Guide) to visualize potential future sea level rise and flooding in the city of Tromsø in northern Norway. The Tromsø Virtual Reality was generated by Sweco (using Enscape) under the scope of the EU Horizon 2020 IMPETUS project to enhance public understanding and debate on climate change risks. It provides an immersive experiences to visualize and communicate climate impacts effectively. The tool is also presented on the IMPETUS Marketplace.

VR-Glasses User’s Guide Tool for raising awareness and project design Translated from Norwegian to English by Kai-Uwe Eiselt, UiT –The Arctic University of Norway
Learn how to set up the VR-glasses •Follow the instructions given by the glasses. A bief user’s guide follows here. •Confirm the floor level •For the model’s ground- /floor level to be the same as the user’s the floor level must be confirmed or changed. The virtual grid that appears must be at the floor level. If it needs to be changed, hold the one controller right at the floor. •To avoid walking into the furniture when wearing the glasses, a safty zone is set up in an open space. One has to stay inside that zone while looking at the images/model, thus choose an area large enough to move around in. 2 2 1 Put on the glasses and turn them on 2 Floor level 3 Room boundaries
From model to VR-glasses 3 1 Revit-model 2 Metaaccount 5 Rendering 6 Add images 7 Open app in VR-glasses 8 View images in VR-glasses 4 Log into Meta-account on VR-glasses 3 App Meta-account
STEPS •Project/draw desired situation(s) and content. •NB! This is done most effectively in programs that are compatible with the VR-glasses that will be used, or designed in, e.g., Civil, transferred to Revit. •The model was made in Revit which is compatible with (Oculus) Meta Quest 2 which is being used here. •In this project an existing situation and a future sitation with a 200-year sturm surge is shown. •Create a Meta-account or log into https://www.meta.com/no/ •Googleor Facebook-account. •If several VR-glasses are being used at the same time, they can all log into the same account. This avoids having to buy the same app multiple times (step 3). •The 360°- pictures from the Revit-model are used. To view them in the best way possible in the glasses, the app ImmerGallery was bought in the Meta Storeaccount on the internet. 4 4 1 Plan/model 2 Metaaccount 3 App Meta-account •Dashboard in the glasses. •Log onto the internet with the glasses (same as PC). •Click on account (lower-left on the dashboard in the glasses). •Log into Meta-account: https://auth.meta.com/devi ce/ and enter the code appearing in the glasses. 4 Connect VRglasses to Meta-account … din konto …
STEPS •Render 360°- pictures from model (here Revit). •Pictures from different parts of the model and/or before and after situation. •Glasses can be worn while walking around without PC and cable. •Pictures can also be shown on the telephone via an image link. •(If one wants to walk around in the model use Enscape—requires being connected to the PC with a cable). •Pictures are loaded directly onto the VR-glasses. •Connect theVR-glasses to the PC with a cable. File explorer –this PC –Quest - allow inside the glasses. •Transfer the pictures to the glasses in the pictures directory, see screenshot below. •App galleri on the righthand side of the dashboard. •Select 360°-/panorama viewing for the pictures in the app. 5 5 •Open the choosen picture app (here ImmerGallery). •Use the controls to flip through the pictures. 5 Rendering 7 Open app in VR-glasses 6 Add pictures 8 View pictures in VR-glasses
