Preface We are delighted to introduce the proceedings of the 15th edition of the European Alliance for Innovation (EAI) International Conference on Simulation Tools and Techniques (SIMUtools 2023). This conference brought together researchers, developers, and practitioners from around the world who are leveraging and developing research work in the fields of systems modeling and simulation, including modeling techniques, simulation software, combination of artificial intelligence and simulation, application of high-performance computing to simulation, simulation performance, and applications to a wide variety of fields, including for example wildfire risk, water infrastructures, road traffic, electric vehicles, logistics, medical sciences, and communication networks. The conference was dedicated to fostering interdisciplinary collaborative research in these areas and its application domains. SIMUtools 2023 was hosted at the Technical School of Computer Engineering of the University of Seville (Seville, Spain) on 14th and 15th December 2023. The technical program consisted of 23 full papers in oral presentation sessions at the main conference track. Aside from the high-quality technical paper presentations, the technical program also featured two keynote speeches. The first one, entitled “Why Sim-Learnheuristics? Solving Optimization Problems under Stochastic and Dynamic Scenarios”, was given by Angel A. Juan, from the Universitat Politécnica de Valencia (Valencia, Spain). The second one, entitled “Modeling and Simulation of Cellular Networks: formalizing the models”, was given by Gabriel Wainer, from Carleton University (Ottawa, Canada). Coordination with the Steering Committee Chair, Imrich Chlamtac, and the Steering Committee Co-Chairs, Gabriel Wainer, Helen D. Karatza, José Luis Sevillano Ramos, and José-Luis Guisado-Lizar, was essential for the success of the conference. We sincerely appreciate their constant support and guidance. It was also a great pleasure to work with such an excellent Conference Manager, Veronika Kissova, and Organizing Committee team, formed by José-Luis Guisado-Lizar, Agustín Riscos-Núñez, María- José Morón-Fernández, David Ragel Díaz-Jara, David Orellana Martín, Daniel Cascado Caballero, Elena Cerezuela Escudero, Daniel Cagigas Muñiz, Luis Valencia Cabrera, Betsaida Alexandre Barajas, from the University of Seville (Spain), and Gabriel Wainer, from Carleton University (Canada), for their hard work in organizing and supporting the conference. In particular, we are grateful to the Technical Program Committee, who completed the peer-review process for the technical papers and helped to put together a high-quality technical program. We are also grateful to all the authors who trusted us and submitted their papers to the SIMUtools 2023 conference. We strongly believe that SIMUtools provides a good forum for all researchers, developers, and practitioners to discuss all science and technology aspects that are relevant to simulation tools and techniques. We also expect that future SIMUtools conferences
vi Preface will be as successful and stimulating, as indicated by the contributions presented in this volume. December 2023 José-Luis Guisado-Lizar Agustín Riscos-Núñez María-José Morón-Fernández Gabriel Wainer
