Entre 1722 y 1726. Al regresar a Gran Bretaña en 1726 e inspirado por la Metamorfosis Insectorum Surinamensium de Maria Sibylla Merian (1705) y el Horti medici Amstelodamensis (1697-1701), planeó que las impresiones de sus dibujos se colocaran en páginas frente a su descripción. Se publicó en 11 secciones de 1734 a 1747 y se vendió por suscripción, aunque normalmente se encuentra encuadernado en dos volúmenes; el segundo de ellos dedicado a peces y anfibios, cuyas imágenes conforman el calendario de este año.
